Thank you so much for this post. More complicated than I would have hoped but your suggestion worked. Would be nice if Apple would make the Exchange integration work a little simpler & more consistently

Hi Folks-
I just thought I'd mention what I did--for folks who might want to delete their calendars who are not using MobileMe calendars:
Simply rename your good calendar(s) to something else ("lauren_good"), and then create a new blank calendar called "lauren" and put a check mark next to sync that in iTunes, and overwrite it upon the next sync. Bingo. Done in a few short moments.
I actually did this myself because I decided to really give the CalDAV a go with Google Calendar and iPhone 3.0 -- Google's really done great things, with implementing Push and all. I think I might just give up my MobileMe for Google... but that's another thread.
Cheers.

I'm not quite situated yet... i need a bit more time to work through some things. My calendars are situated, but my Contacts are not. Gmail handles contacts totally different than Address Book. I have a bunch of categories that I keep, which helps on the iPhone. So, what I do is use SpanningSync and sync contacts, but also keep my iPhone the way I want it (with the categories). I only really use the Gmail interface when I am not on one of my laptops, so I really am using Address Book every other time with AppleMail. That was one great feature of MobileMe...but I think with better Push technology and more Gmail updates, better Contacts support will be coming down the pike. I cannot wait until Gmail releases the GPush app...
Any luck with getting your calendars to be actually "color-coded" from Address Book to Google Calendar? I read a post about that, but I didn't have any luck yet.

Lauren,
Can you be more specific? Where are you renaming? Which app are you using for that? How are you deleting the blank calendar? I am unable to delete the three calendars on iPhone, or iCal. I only want the one. I followed, I thought, your instructions and ended up with four!

To delete the calendars you need to do it on your mac not on your iphone
You don't need any apps to do this.
To delete a calendar click on it> go to Edit on the bar at the top> select delete and it will be gone
Make sure when you go to Settings> Mail,Contacts,Calendars> 'your' mobileme account(if you have one)>turn off calendars and/or contacts and then go through the process suggested by paul from here:
Temporarily create a calendar in iCal called "Apple FAIL" or something. In iTunes under your phone->Info, "Sync iCal calendars", select just that calendar (unchecking the option to sync iCal calendars won't clear out the stranded ones).
Under "Advanced" on the same screen (you might have to scroll down to see it), check "Calendar" under "Replace information on this iPhone"
Sync.
On iTunes, uncheck "Sync iCal calendars"
Sync.
On your Mac, delete the temporary "Apple FAIL" calendar you created
If you are using Mobile Me:
On your iPhone, go back to Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars, find your Mobile Me account, turn "Calendars" back on.
Otherwise:
In iTunes, select the iCal calendars you want and re-sync
Hope this helps

I found a much, much simpler approach for my issue with deleting an account.
I use over the air (m.s. exchange) and also had created a calendar from my pc (from Outlook) which I didn't want. Apple couldn't help me, but this thread gave me the idea.
All you do is: go to your over the air (ms exchange for me) account in settings and turn off the calendar button. You'll get a warning that all your calendar info will be deleted. And it will be - poof no calendar info at all (ALL calendars, whether over the air or not go bye bye). Then turn the calendar button on for over the air. A couple minutes later, your over the air calendar is back, but the other calendars are gone.
