After reading the posts should I update to 7.4.1 or should I just leave things as is at 7.4 for a while?

Sit tight! I wish I had read the postings before upgrading. I have an ae and after I did the upgrade, I cannot see the network, nor will the apple airport utility allow me to address the router directly. It's clear this was not completely tested before the release, as my setup is basic

ditto, I would wait.. I, as many, have had to revert back to 7.3.2.... 7.4.1 as of right now is WAY to buggy IMO.

I have a new TC running 7.4.1 and have no issues whatsoever.

Likewise, I know many people with older AEBSs or TCs who've also had no issues upgrading to 7.4.1.

Finally those who have had issues have been able to restore full functionality by resetting their AEBSs or TCs and reconfiguring them.

I have no issues as well upgrading to 7.4.1

Just that I am still struggling to figure out how to connect to my TC hard drive using BTMM while i am away.

I suggest if you plan to use the "n-only mode(5Ghz)" stick to the old firmware. Initially it worked fine for me but after a few hours the network just disappeared. I hooked it up to my trusty old Airport Express, changed to mixed mode(2.4Ghz) and all was good. Then I reverted back to 5Ghz, the network appeared and worked but after a few hours it was gone again. So I had to revert to the old firmware again. And accessing my Time Capsule via BTMM never worked for me even though I followed all of the tips I found on several forums, like deleting keychain entries, logging in and out of MobileMe-preference pane, etc.

Personaly I feel you will get issues depending what capability you use. If you use the default settings then it works but if you try to use capabilities like hidden SSID under WPA encryption then it fails rather miserably...

I also wonder how much this could potentially be due to hidden problems on the client side stack (I mean the Airport subsystem on the client Mac itself), because using wireless monitoring tools I could see the network being there but the access negociation was failing.

And in any case, I am using OS X 10.5.6 with the latest patches on the client side and having reverted back to 7.3.2 (on the TC side) it is quite happy, so I still expect the problem to be more on the TC firmware side.

But this seems so crazy that it makes you wonder...

Upgraded to 7.4.1 from 7.3.2. MBP Intel, 10.5.6. No issue before I updated and nothing BUT issues after I updated. Running 802.11N in 5Ghz mode automatic channels, 1 AEX, 1 AE and 1 Airtunes. Network was slow with many problems accessing the internet. I won't call them dropouts as I always had 4 bars but periodically it just wouldn't bring up web pages and I couldn't connect to the airports. with airtunes, dropouts were occurring about every 5 seconds.

Reverted back to 7.3.2 and smooth as silk. No airtunes droputs and no dropouts with my internet connection. Sorry, can't say this is anything but a firmware issue when the only thing that changed was the firmware update. So much for adequate testing before it's released.

I'd say update. If you have issues, revert back to the previous successful firmware you had.

My new dual-band TC is running with a hidden SSID, MAC address controls and WPA/WPA2 Personal and I've none of the issues here.

What seems to work for most people who have had issues upgrading from older firmware is to do a full factory reset, then reconfigure your AEBS or TC.

Did you notice that the "automatic" channel for 5Ghz mode is completely different with 7.4.1 firmware from what it was with 7.3.2? In my case, previously "automatic" chose channel 36 whereas 7.4.1 chose 147 (or thereabouts). What I would suggest before changing the firmware back to the old version is to change the wireless channel manually back to the same channel as was being used before. Holding down Option when clicking the Channel dropdown in Airport Utility should allow you to choose a channel rather than relying on "automatic" being a good channel.

Automatic is just that - the base station picks a channel that it feels is interference free and should work best in your environment.

It isn't dynamic, it's an at-time-of-configuration thing, so it means no more than your base station feels 36 might work best for you.

It doesn't necessarily mean the algorithm's changed.

Learnt my lesson too. Will read these pages before updates. Firmware update to 7.4.1 (802.11n network - TimeCap, Extreme and 2 x Expresses). Communication between Extreme/Express and TimeCap ground to halt and error messages about remote speakers. Apple helpline advised me to revert to 7.3.2.
