ipod shuffle headphones-3rd generation

When I'm using my 3rd generation shuffle the headphones will quit working after about a half hour or 45 min. The volume goes down really low and the controls don't respond. After I turn it off for awhile it will start to work again. Does anyone else have this problem? What causes it to happen and how can I keep it from happening?

Is this happening when you are working out or running? Or is it just happening at any time?

When I'm running. I took my first shuffle back for an exchange and it happened w/ the new shuffle. I bought the in ear headphones and it happens w/ those as well. Today I took the in ear headphones down to the Apple store and they exchanged them. I tried to explain what was happening but they were just like "well if it happens again just exchange the shuffle". They said they haven't heard of anyone having trouble.

I am responding because they heard this issue from ME! I am on my 3rd replacement headphone, and have figured out the hard way that you can NOT take this thing jogging or any activity that might involve one drop a sweat. I have put up with the unreliability because I fell in love with its beauty, simplicity, and design. I would have been SHOCKED if Microsoft was boneheaded enough to have released a product for exercise that was obviously not tested for its primary intent. For Apple, it is inexcusable. I suppose I have to request that I exchange the device for the far inferior prior generation model, but at least it gives me something to listen to while jogging

It's a known problem with moisture from sweating running down earphone cable into the control pod. You can get it replaced at an Apple Store...
OR wait a couple of days for the control connectors to dry out.
Many interim solutions exist, among them using plastic wrap around the control module secured with plastic tape at the ends.

but that is a problem, all use ipod to run and to practice sports. in the manual he/she didn't speak about this problem.
The solution of the apple that I buy another phone? That is an absurdity!

The "it is a known problem with moisture" response to the above question is exactly correct. At first I thought i had a battery issue because the music would cut out 45 minutes into a workout shortly after losing control of the volume controls etc. I then follwed another posters advice and used a ziplock baggie and regular scotch tape to keep the controls dry during a work out. All has worked fine since then.
You may want to set up an appointment at the apple store. It was a madhouse when went in on a friday night around 7pm

I had the same response when I mentioned the Shuffle headphone problem to an Apple person in an Apple Store. The problem is Apple employees are forbidden from admitting, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary on their own discussion forums, that any Apple products have any problems associated with them.

I've had the same problems described in this string of messages while running. I've had the earphones replaced once and am in the process of having the shuffle itself replaced. It's great that Apple supports their product, but this seems to be a design flaw that should be fixed. I'd also like to be able to use earbuds that stay in my ears when I run. With the 3rd Gen design, we're forced to use the apple earbuds. Does anyone know of an adapter other that the black foam covers?

I am so glad to hear that other people are having this same problem. My shuffle 3rd generation stops working after about 30 minutes of running. I am on my third different unit and headphones and it has the same problem. It must be sweat so I will try the plastic bag option even though that defeats the purpose of some of the convenience of the item. Apple employees act like you are crazy when you bring this up. I am on the brink of throwing the thing away and going back to my old shuffle.

I have just received my 3rd gen shuffle and same problem. It also gets stuck telling me the names of the songs if I skip or find out what song I am listening to. I used plastic wrap and still had the same problem of it getting quiet during running. So just to be sure, it is the headphones that are the problem? I am running with my massive old ipod at the moment so I am developing a massive right leg from the weight of it. No seriously it is crazy that this unit which is so obviously for exercise is so awful.
