Notes sync in 3.0 on Mac -- Where?
Posted: Jun 17, 2009 11:20 AM

Hm....apparently the Notes now sync with Mac and PC.

Where do they sync TO on a Mac? I have all the latest software, 10.5.7 etc - and they don't seem to sync anywhere.

Any ideas on this one?

Helpful

I think they are supposed to sync to mail, but after upgrading to 3.0 on iPhone, when I check Note Sync in iTunes and hit apply, the button unchecks and there is no syncing of notes taking place.

Same here. It shows during Sync in iTunes that Notes are syncing. Then they appear nowhere on my MBP. Not in Mail, not anywhere else.

Mine is syncing, but I don't know where to. I can enter a note on the iPhone and I can use Spotlight to find it. It stores in /Users/winski/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Notes.mbox/ but I don't see anywhere to access that other than going to the directory or through Spotlight. Seems I should see it in Mail or something.

Exact same problem -- a quick look at some other forums over the past few minutes indicate nobody seems to be able to access their notes on the Mac after syncing and everyone reports the same problems.

Scanning the Beta reports indicates that Beta Testers also had trouble syncing notes.

I have the same behavior. I was wondering if if the Sync happens to .Mac if you have that turned on on the iPhone and then you can't do both, but it doesn't even appear as an option in the Settings. There's just Mail, Contacts and Calendars. Although, it does appear as an option in the Control Panel on my Mac. Weird.

Mine's an original iPhone (new one coming on Friday).

Someone suggested the following...I just tried it and it did NOTHING, although for this other user it seemed to have worked. This is thanks to Doctorew, but this did nothing to solve the problem for me.

Eject the iPhone.

Command-Q itunes.

Reboot the phone

restart iTunes

check under info to make sure the Notes Sync check box is checked.

Sync.

Ah, that did work for me. Quit iTunes, restarted iPhone and as it was syncing, it prompted me to confirm the notes sync. Thanks - hope it clears up for you.

Notes will appear in Mail. On the sidebar, look under Reminders.

Mine works fine with Sync Notes checked in iTunes, under the Info Tab.

10.5.7 is required.

Another thing to check is that Notes default to displaying in Inbox if you don't otherwise specify. I've always wanted my to display in their own location so as soon as I started syncing they were right were I expected them. My only catch is that it's not syncing all my Notes, just some. Very strange.

Thanks ErikW! My Reminders tab was not expanded. I clicked on it and Notes appeared.

Confirmed. The method of restarting everything got the Notes syncing to work, putting them in Mail.

My question: how can we sync Notes over the air with MobileMe? Under the MobileMe Sync Preferences there's a checkbox for Notes, but this doesn't seem to do anything when checked.

Solved

I had the same problem with the box unchecking itself too. I just unplugged the phone, exited iTunes and started it up again. It worked from then on. They get put under Reminders in the Mail app. OK, so problem 1 was resolved, but I too am having trouble syncing Notes throught the cloud using MobileMe. It only syncs notes when I'm plugged in. I have the option set to sync notes in my MobileMe settings, but that has never really done anything in the past.

What gives?
