Hi folks,
Has anyone been successful at pairing their Touch 3.0 with a Bluetooth headset? I've been trying to pair mine with a Motorola H3 Bluetooth unit without any luck.

I am having exactly the same problem. I have a Jabra BT-4051 bluetooth headset with mic and the ipod touch does not recognize any part of the headset. I was told by Apple that it will not work because of the mic but I've seen other peoples' posts that said that their headsets worked for the speaker but not the mic. Any help would be appreciated.

This has me a little worried because it is quite likely that the enabled Bluetooth only had profiles for bluetooth headphones and not headsets. These are two different profiles. Headphones only play sound whereas headsets play sound and receive sound from the microphone. It would be awesome if the enabled Bluetooth capability included the headset profile.

Hopefully Apple will release an update allowing bluetooth headsets with mic support. The bluetooth right now is pretty useless.

The iPod will only work with headphones, not headsets.

Does the iPod touch 2G's audio port include a builtin mic port? In other words, does the Apple iPhone wired headset (the one with the built-in mic) work--headphones and mic? I basically would like to have Skype work with the iPod touch. If the 2G's audio port can work with wired headsets, then I may think of getting it.

The audio port DOES have a mic input, just like the iPhone. It is 1 of only 2 ways you can have audio input on the iPod. The other is to use the dock connector and an accessory.

Unfortunately, the iPod Touch only uses the A2DP Bluetooth Profile, which supports high quality audio OUTPUT. The bluetooth chip in iPod Touch 2nd Gen does not currently support any of the other bluetooth profiles needed to use the mic of a headset (HSP, HFP, etc).
YOU CAN use a headset with the iPod, but you will only get audio coming out of it, the mic will not work with your iPod.
Basically, its a one-way street. Audio out, no audio in.
You can use the Mic/headphone port on the iPod if you have the right kind of headphones with a Mic built into them. OR you can get an iPod Mic accessory that plugs into the dock port.

Actually the 2 different profiles are not headphones and headsets. Headphones only have 1 profile, A2DP. Headsets have 2 profiles, A2DP and either HSP, HFP, or one other profile that supports audio input. Headphones are only meant to play music, so they only need the stereo profile, A2DP. Headsets that have stereo speakers also use A2DP, but the microphone uses the HeadSet or HandsFree profiles in combination.
You can use both headphones and headsets, but headsets will only play music. You cannot use the mic.

just to a little addition. I've managed to sync it with one of my headsets (I haven't had a chance to try with the others - I'm suffering from the 'waiting for backup/sync' issue). Its headphones only at this stage as the headset supports 2 profiles.
anyways it is a VERY oneway street here - no AVRCP (hope thats spelt right!) - so all i can do is pause + play songs. no skipping (...unless it uses the double click and triple click thing...). My sony bluetooth dongle did a better job! (but i broke it 2 days ago - figures)
on the plus side for those with headsets that can support it - you can still pair the headset to your phone... but it means you still have to carry extra cables for skype and fring use.
Is it me or does it seem that when Apple 'gives' us something its never as good as they make it out to be and/or they take something back/away!!!

"The bluetooth chip in iPod Touch 2nd Gen does not currently support any of the other bluetooth profiles needed to use the mic of a headset (HSP, HFP, etc)."
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the impression that the "bluetooth chip" is not the limiting factor in this. As I understand it bluetooth profiles are supplied by a software/firmware layer known as "the bluetooth stack". This software can be updated in subsequent versions providing more bluetooth profiles.

I'm kind of jacked for a couple of reasons with the Bluetooth implementation:
First, as noted, we can only play songs and not skip with headsets (e.g. Moto S9 HD). Secondly, I have not been successful in getting my Anycom BAR-10 (link below), to work with my iPod Touch. It is a bluetooth audio receiver with A2DP profile that I use in my car to receive & play music through my head unit and for the life of me can not understand why this won't work!!!

Any ideas???

First of all on my Jabra Headset with a mic I can not even get the unit to be recognized which doesn't make any sense since the headset supports a2dp. I know the mic wont work but at least I want to use it as a wireless headphone for listening to music.

Yeah, my iPod Touch keeps searching and can't find my Motorola H800 headset. I knew there might be a chance Apple wouldn't allow the mic to function to prevent folks from using Skype or a similar program over Wi-Fi. I just wanted it to listen wirelessly to movies or hopefully use it for the Voice Memos app. If Apple purposely disabled headsets, I just spent 10 bucks so I can copy & paste text, BFD!
