Signal strength?
Posted: Jun 19, 2009 12:35 PM

I noticed that I am only getting a couple of bars in my house with the 3Gs whereas before with the 3G, I was getting 5. Is the reception worse on the 3Gs or is the meter just more accurate?

Yeah! My signal is horrible! With the 3G I always had full signal. I just bought the 32gb 3G S today and it keeps dropping to one bar and NO SIGNAL. I'm getting ready to return it but I fear they probably don't have any to replace it with.

I thought I was the only one! For some reason I have been getting very poor signal strength and it's starting to get a little frustrating. I always had excellent signal on my 3G but since I switched over to my 3GS it's been prett bad.

Same problem here. I am only getting about 1/3 the signal on the 3Gs that I had on the 3g. Also showing edge network in areas where I know 3G is available. Hopefully this is an ATT overloaded network problem. Seems like I remember having a similar problem the first few days the 3G came out.

I was over my sister's house and turned off 3G and got a better signal. What do you lose when you turn off 3G? Slower internet access? Ability to provision the line?

Just back from a 400 mile round trip. My 3G had usable signal 90% of the trip and the 3Gs had no-signal 90% of the trip. It seems it is not just me.

Same issue here. 3GS is 50% of the signal strength of the 3G.

I never owned a 3G, and no one has been here with a 3G phone so far as I know. I get a solid 5 bars with my 3GS. The old 2G sometimes was lower, but I suspect that's apples vs. oranges.

We drove quite a bit around our city today and my impression (I was playing with the GPS and watching the screen while my wife drove) is that reception was full scale everywhere. Not surprising: I live in a city in the L.A. basin and there are only minor hills (100 ft max) where we were driving.

i had a 2g before but my mom's 3g always had 5 bars, and so does my 3gs.
not sure why some of you are having this issue. Maybe faulty radio/ antenna?

Add me to this group. My 3G was fine. My 3G S is not getting the same signal as my previous 3G. At least that's what it's showing me. Less signal in some places, not the same signal here at home - worse. Etc etc. First 3G S was like this. Second one is better but not by much.

Try doing a carrier reset.
