3GS Overheats specially when using GPS
Posted: Jun 29, 2009 10:55 AM

There are internet reports that 3GS overheats and if it is white handset, the overheat causes pink/redish marks around the battery. A French forum reports similar problem.

I have a black 32gb 3GS and recently I experienced overheating when I was using GPS. Everytime I use GPS it somehow overheats, however mild it may be. But in a region where 3G is out of reach and phone switches to Edge, the overheating is unbearable. You must shut down the phone.

Anyone experiencing similar problem?

i used maps during a recent long (13 hr) road trip and noticed the back got warm to the touch, but not as hot as some laptops. Battery life was stinko! Overall I was impressed with how accurate it was - it tracked right along with my Garmin.

I've been reading the reports of the overheating phones as well. I've noticed mine gets warm, but never really hot, until today that is. I use it when I walk at lunch. I use RunKeeper, which is an App that keeps track of your location and speed/pace by continuously tracking your location with the GPS. I had that and the iPod running for 23 minutes while I walked, and when I took it out of my pocket, it was quite hot to the touch.

Other than that, if I'm using it to just surf the web or play a game, it gets warm, but never really hot.

My battery life has been okay, can't quite decide if it's less than it should be or not. Sometimes it seems short, sometimes it seems to be what is expected. I think it's probably around the correct ballpark though, maybe slightly on the short side.

Oh yeah, this is a 16GB Black 3GS btw...

I experienced this on a short drive several days ago. I started the GPS function while driving home and when I arrived home, after a 10 mile drive, my iPhone was hot to the touch. Will test to see if this occurs again.
