The computer with my original itunes crashed so my ipod touch is the only device that still has all my songs. I bought a new computer and now i need to get all of the songs (including the ones i did not purchase on itunes) onto the new computer. I have tried putting the ipod in manual, but it doesn't work. Even when I put it in manual it still doesn't show up as a drive on my computer. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi, I have the same problem. I only have about 60% of my iTunes songs backed up, the rest didn't backup properly (iTunes crashed several times).
I tried some 3rd party software but they don't recognize my ipod touch.

iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Mac Pro 2.26, Black MacBook
Mac OS X (10.5.7)
30GB iPod 5G, 80 GB iPod Classic, 2nd Generation iPod shuffle

The only problem with the article you have provided me with is that in that article the author is using itunes version 1.2.1 and I am using 2.2.1, so when he describes putting my ipod on manual I can't check the same boxes he can. So if anyone has a more recent approach to the problem that would be great

Is there anyway that we could also re-download the songs that we purchased from the iTunes store? My laptop crashed as well.

How safe are some of these applications? I don't want my pc to crash due to some unsafe software. Been there, done that.

This isn't helpful for me. I purchased music using an iTunes account for use on my computer itself. I didn't have an ipod (or a physical i-anything) at the time. Later, I was unable to boot the computer and had to reinstall the OS (Vista), blowing away everything on the hard drive. There are a lot of things I had backed up, but not iTunes' data. Since I basically purchased a license for the songs I got from iTunes, and since I have an account which identifies me, it seems that I should be allowed to re-download the music. Can I do that?
