Can't Share or see Shared music on same LAN

I have two macs on the same LAN. They each have itunes and each have itunes set-up to share music. Prefs/firewall is open for itunes sharing. They used to share music fine, but now they can't.
Two changes have been made...
1. I bought a newer linksys wired router to replace an older one. (I needed QOS for my VOIP service)
2. I upgraded iTunes to v6.0.2 on both macs.
I have tried turning on and off the itunes music sharing on both macs - I have tried turning on and off the firewall for itunes. Nothing seems to help.
Any thoughts?
Thank you - Bill

Hello Bill,
Not sure this will help but its worth a try. I had similar hapen to me but not on a lan but between accounts. after the 10.4.4 upgrade or maybe iTunes v6.0.2 as you pointed out (did both at the same time). What i did was to reset all permissions at the bottom of the information window. After doing this it all came back.
This is a long tread but have a look it may help.
How to share iTunes between accounts

Thanks Cubi - unfortunately this does not help with LAN sharing issues. Thank you though. Bill

To add to my original post.....
I have narrowed the issue down to the new Linksys Router. I used my old router and was able to once again share music between my two macs, but when switching back to the newer router I could no longer share music between these two macs on my LAN.
Old wired router is a Linksys BEFSR41v2
New wired router is a Linksys BEFSR41v4
I have surfed through all of the set-up options of the router and nothing is jumping out at me as a cause for this problem. I'm able to do file sharing between the two macs without issue.
I really hope that this someone out there might have seen this before I know this router enough to make suggestions. I want to use the new router because it has a QOS option for my VOIP service.
Thank You!
Bill

Exactly the same problem...
Have you found an answer yet?
It is the stupid v4 router that is the problem. I spent all weekend trying to get it to work...no joy. Am taking it back to swap for something else today.
I think this model must be reasonably new. It appears no firmware upgrade is available.
I noticed it will still work as a switch, but as soon as you use DHCP it stops Bonjour working
useless.....
Might try a netgear
Best of luck

Well, the plot thickens.
Took the BEFSR41v4 back to the Apple reseller where I purchased it from and left it with the tech dept.
Within 2 hours they had called me to confirm that
1. Yes, router doesn't work with Bonjour, at all, whatsoever
2. The previous v3 worked fine
3. A beta firmware upgrade they had sourced this afternoon (maybe from linksys) which supposedly fixed the problem...didn't.
4. They would now no longer sell this router!
5. They are now probably going to switch to a Netgear model.
So there you go, I'd try and get a refund. The netgear model they suggested was a RP614. Haven't had a look yet.
Interestingly they no longer sell any D-link stuff, nor support it as they have found it to be highly insecure and prone to faults.
Hope this helps
Alistair

Thank you for your replies. Linksys has said they do not know of any issues with iTunes. Guess they are wrong. Any way - Netgear looks good, but it does not offer QOS options I need. I wish Linksys would just fix this issue.
Thanks again - your reply was very helpful.

Here's the latest reply I got from Linksys RE; the BEFSR41v4 and iTunes. I have yet to try, but will post and let you know what happens.
----------------------------------------------------
FROM LINKSYS:
Try enabling port triggering on the router. Trigger port 3689 and see if it is the same issue. You may also try re-flashing firmware 1.04.05.

I found that Bonjour didn't work in any form on my BEFSR41v4 with the default settings, and this would prevent iTunes music sharing from working.
After much messing around, I discovered that the solution was to go to the Security->Filter page in the web config pages, and switch Filter Multicast to Enabled, then save the settings. That's right, you have to switch Filter Multicast to the opposite of what the instructions tell you to do.
I don't use iTunes sharing myself, so I can't verify that this will actually cure your problem, but it has certainly fixed all the Bonjour services I'm using. I thought I'd post here since I discovered this thread in my original round of Googling for answers. Hope it helps.

Setting the multicast option inside the router worked brilliantly! I too have a Linksys (the model that Vonage gives you with built-in 802 wireless) and I set the multicast from disabled to enabled and it totally fixed ALL of my Bonjour problems. I did have to restart both machines after setting that option in the router. Also, everything worked inside the router untouched until around the 10.4.5 update....Great solution!

Wow!
I'm just now getting caught up on this article. I was about to arrange for a newe router from Linksys, but it appears that would not have solved my problem anyway. I'll have to try this solution when I get home and report back here with my results.
Can you or anyone help point to a URL or explain what Filter Multicasting is? What is the risk (if any) of having it enabled? What woudln't it be enabled as the default?

As I understand it, multicasting is a perfectly reasonable thing to have running on a private network. It allows a computer to broadcast a message to all other computers on the same part of the network without having to know where they all are. As you can imagine, this is important for iTunes music sharing and other Bonjour services.
I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to block it, but I suspect it's something to do with preventing the spread of viruses on Windows networks. Since there are no known means of attacking a Mac via multicast (as opposed to via specific services like iChat), I don't believe it poses any kind of a threat. That may not be the case forever, but I imagine we'll hear all about it if it ever becomes a problem.
