Connection speeds down since 2nd security update...
Posted: Mar 14, 2006 5:41 PM

My connection speed(s) has dropped *considerably* since yesterday's Security Update--I emptied the Trash, repaired Permissions before and after, and so on.

Everything still works but is *very* slow. Not just Safari, but Mail, MT-Newswatcher, etc.

Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to Uninstaill the Update (if that's even possible), as it is security-related...

Helpful

I've noticed the same thing. I thought my ISP was on the fritz tonight, but now I'm worried the Security Update is the culprit. Anyone else exeriencing a slow down?

I have noticed the exact opposite! My internet is now moving faster than ever. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary before or after the update. It is like night and day.

Last night Firefox seemed a bit snappier than Safari on my PB. Perhaps a good night's rest will have cleared out the cobwebs. I'll check it out on my 100BT connection at work after lunch. Thanks for the post.

Firefox still seems a little snappier on the fast connection, but nothing really significant - barely noticable - I think that a discrepancy may be more apparent on my slower home connection (embarassingly only 256 DSL line). However, given that this doesn't seem to be affecting a large number of users, I am going to clean Safari cache, history, etc and hope the slow down (if there was any) was due to something other than the update.

After downloading/installing Security Update 2.0 v1.1 Mail and MT-Newswatcher feel like they're back to normal, Safari has gotten some of its speed back but not all, but downloading is still terrible (I'm getting around 3k a sec, whereas it should be around 80).

Waiting for S.U. 2.0 v. 2?...

just in case,
it does no harm to delete the icons folder from time to time under Safari ....
i do it once in a while, and it speeds Safari up, in the sense that it opens right away after the first bounce on the dock...

Yep, you're right. v1.1 did something different. Interesting 1.1 didn't pop up in SU after installing 1.0.

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but what Oliver Lu suggests above and what seemed to help my connect speed, is go to Apple downloads at:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads//

download the Security Update that was posted there on March 16th. This is v1.1. On Wednesday we all installed v1.0. Hopefully this will help you.

I just installed the update *v1.1*
and sadly had to discover the described
total drop in network performance

hmm
drop is not exactly what it looks like
it looks more like a cut
I can not even get a simple website to be loaded
without connection resets

very annoying that
