YouTube..Myspace safari errors
Posted: Jun 20, 2006 1:42 PM

Whenever I try to access YouTube.com, I recieve this error message:
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://youtube.com/” because it could not connect to the server “youtube.com”.

I also recieve this on about half of the myspace pages.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? It started yesterday, and although I'm not sure, it could be related to updating from 10.4.0 to 10.4.6, since thats the only major thing I did on my computer yesterday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello & Welcome To Apple Discussions

*note that a 404 error could be that the site was down does this link work for you? http://youtube.com/

Does anyone know what could be the problem? It started yesterday, and although I'm not sure, it could be related to updating from 10.4.0 to 10.4.6, since thats the only major thing I did on my computer yesterday.

I have access to both the sites you mention & on 10.4.6, I think your updating might be the problem or perhaps not.

Use this article to run permission first and see if that helps,Travis A. - kmosx: Regular Maintenance / General Troubleshooting
Travis A.if you do not understand something ask.
this is most likely not a Safari issue.

Did you repair permission before & after the software update? Did you use the combo update Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPCi presume this is not an Intel iMac, correct ?

Did you do the update using this method underlined here a brody's Now that 10.4.6 is out, let's review the upgrade steps )

Concentrate on a.brodys post he is the Original Poster of the thread & very learned.

Let us know please.

no i'm not being blocked because i can't connect to just random pages. for example, i can't go to deathcabforcutie.com, but i can go to ot her band sites. myspace login page and home page works, but music page and inbox page does not. it says it cant connect. then somtimes i'll click on navigation hotlinks, and it will take me to the website i was on before that. it's really screwy, but its not just safari, the same problem occurs with firefox and camino. its reallly odd, because i'm connected to the internet, and i can view the pages fine on the other computers in my house.

Hello,

I just glanced through this post and I'm experiencing the same problems with accessing MySpace since last Sunday. Tried Safari and Firefox, too.

Error message in Safari:
"Safari could not open the page “http://myspace.com/artunited” because the server stopped responding."

Error message in Firefox:
"The connection has timed out

The server at myspace.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

- I tried to find and clean .plist files - didn't find any for myspace.

- I ran repar permissions via Disk Utility, but no difference

- Not quite sure about what does "cleaning up the directory of the hard drive" means in repairing the hard disk. I don't want to delete any files I have.

- I cleaned up cache of Safari and Firefox - nothing helps. I'll try MacJanitor, too.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Petra

I am also having the same issue... it just started today... and its been really irritating me... I can accesses a lot of the usual forums i go to... nor can i access the youtube.com website...

My camino doesn't work either...

its just random websites... but not all websites...

I thought it might be spyware or something so i downloaded macscan... but none detected... but even when i tried to accesses the securemac.com website I couldnt... i had to download on my pc and then transfer it through aim...

I know the chances are slim to none but could it be possible that I have a virus... argh... this is bugging me....

Help please! thanx

same thing started happening to me a couple days ago. didn't install any new programs or updates or anything. suddenly i couldn't access some sites. not all just some. and my google search bar started to not work in safari. the error is:

Safari can’t open the page “http://google.com/” because it could not connect to the server “google.com”.

for some reason i can't connect to lots of other random sites either, including .edu's. already repaired permissions and ran a disk repair. and updated to 10.4.7 (after this started). and these same sites don't work in firefox either. any ideas at all ?

thanks -
matt

...it seems to me that Apple has got some work on their hands as far as resolving this problem...

Should we notify them or are they browsing this forum so they can find out??

Hello Petra ,

Did you try to log in a with a different user account as I recommended to thebrookemontkids, ( always appreciated feedback to a suggestion made ) if not, please do so. This is the best process of elimination.

- I tried to find and clean .plist files - didn't find any for myspace.

The plist file would be com.apple.Safari.plist to get there,
there would not be a .plist file for myspace, unless it is under the Macromedia .plist files/ folder[s],

Quit Safari, go to Go:
Home <yourusername>/Library/Prefrences/com.apple.Safari.plist
move this to the trash,it will affect, history, icons and cache, however your bookmarks are not deleted.

Not quite sure about what does "cleaning up the directory of the hard drive" means in repairing the hard disk. I don't want to delete any files I have.

Repairing the HD is only to be done with a restart booting w/ Tiger CD/DVD.
holding the "c" Keydown just/after startup chime, till the gears stop.

Permission repair is done with DU in Go->Utilities and you stay on the First Aid Taband only on the left side., Run Permission repair Do Not toggle the Repair disk button

Let us know if you can log in from an other account.
