Cannot connect to music store?

Everytime I try to connect to the music store, it says the connection has timed out. I was just looking at the music store 2 weeks ago! I don't know how to fix this problem.

I'm having the same problem. I just switched ISPs, maybe that's a factor. (I used to have BellSOuth DSL and I switched to Comcast Cable.) Anyone have a solution?

I'm having the same problem too - nothing is different about my computer or connections. Cannot resolve it right now - tried downloading the iTunes software again.

I'm also having the same problem. I was able to connect yesterday, and nothing on my computer has changed. Could someone please let us know if the store is down or is the problem on our side? Thanks

I'm also having the same problem as of yesterday.
I suspect that it's something to do with the recent Windows Updates.
For example, if I try to access the iTunes server address https://phobos.apple.com/ in Internet Explorer I receive the error:
SSL Alert
The browser and the web-site cannot communicate securely because there are no common encryption algorithms.
Checking the same address in Firefox correctly displays the "Not Found" message rather than the SSL Alert error.
If IE cannot access it correctly, then iTunes will not be able to access it correctly either.
It appears that the Windows Updates have done something to Internet Explorer's SSL handling that is preventing iTunes from being able to access its SSL server.
Apple needs to get on to this ASAP and determine what's going on, because clearly a lot of users are affected.

I never had a problem connecting to the Music Store before, but I recently updated to iTunes version 6.0, and every time I try to connect it says that I am not connected to the internet, and should check my network settings.
I am thinking of just going back to whatever I had before, and giving up on the idea of downloadig TV Shows or music videos.
If anyone else encountered has this problem, and figured out the solution please let me know.
Thanks.

As an update: I've tried rolling back the service packs but it made no difference. It seems the error is caused by the way IE handles the SSL certificate, which must have recently changed in an update.
It does, however, work on my Windows XP computer (even after updates have been installed), so it must be some specific combination that has caused it to start happening.
It's unusual that it only started happening yesterday. This indicates it's either something to do with the Windows Updates from the past couple of days, or something that Apple has changed on the phobos.apple.com server (which seems unlikely given that the SSL certificate is valid from some time last year and hasn't been changed recently).
Come on Apple! There are two albums I want to buy and I can't until this is fixed! It seems there are a lot of other people in the same situation.....

Hi
I get exactly the same problem on my xp laptop too. I have tried reinstalling itunes but it didn't make any difference.
It did work okay about 2 days ago until but stopped working yesterday. Has anyone had a reply from Apple about this yet ? If they have could they post it here please.
I am running Norton and have switched it all of the security off to see if that helped but it did not.

Try downloading itunes again, but in the first box that pops up asking if you want to save or run the file, click RUN, not Save. Then when download is complete, click RUN again. Just a an extra precaution, if you have mcafee privacy service, make sure it is disabled first. This worked for me.

I have removed norton internet security and itunes and re-installed itunes alone and it will still not connect to the music store.
I have tried using the run option from apple website instead of downloading onto pc.
Has anyone had a response from Apple ?

OK, i've downloaded the latest itunes, rebooted and instead of getting: "itunes cannot connect to music Store, connection timed out" (this was the message before updating IT), i now get a different error message with a number and the previous one as well!
Sort it out Apple!! i've done everything on the ITMS help section!!

Yep - I'm having exactly the same problem. It's an odd one though as last Thursday I couldn't connect my home laptop (running Norton, XP home and connecting via Orange broadband) but on Friday I was able to connect my work laptop (via my work wireless network with McAfee and XP Pro).
However, this weekend I brought my work laptop home and going via my home wireless network and a VPN I now can't connect this machine to the itunes store and still can't connect using my home laptop.
I'll try from work again tomorrow.
Note that I haven't allowed installation of any Windows updates on my work laptop in the last week.
I'm fed up and angry at missing out on my weekend itunes binge. Definitely going to sign up to another music store today.

Hi managed to get a response from an itunes so called support person who asked for lots of my personal details and said they would get back to me... (you can prob guess they haven't!)
out of interest, I am using Orange Broadband in the UK as well through the old wanadoo wireless modem/router. Could it be something to do with an upgrade to Orange broadband if there has been one recently ?. I haven't heard of anything though. Its so annoying as my mate is able to connect the music store and he has norton security centre switched on but he is using BT broadband and has not downloaded any of the latest MS updates.
Is it just windows op systems that are affected or are there any MAC users having the same problem ?
