Posted: Dec 1, 2006 1:48 PM

HI i have been on the phone with apple care for hours now and i desperate to find a solution to this issue.

Safari has been unexpectedly quiting for past few day and today (after installing the latest security update) I get the follow message repeatedly
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.apple.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.apple.com”. no mater the website.

it is happen on all users and on test user with default setting.

I am on alternate browser at the moment and but still can't get safari to work.

Have done the follow:
Emptied safari Cache
Reset safari
verified permissions
repaired permissions
Trashed com.apple.safari.Plist
Trashed Caches files
trashed safari
reinstalled safari

still no luck Apple care think i need to reintals system software. I find that haard to believe is there anything i missed?

Hi,

Have you tried setting the DNS settings to those recommended by your ISP in the TCP/IP section of Network preferences?

If you do have those set already, try setting them to:

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2

which are the primary servers used by Verizon (they tend to be more reliable and speedy compared to others).

I am not having this issue on other browsers, could it still be DNS settings?

How are you connecting to the internet? If you're using a router try adding those DNS settings to the router instead.

Hmm, strange. Have you tried logging out of that account and re-logging in?

Or even restarting the machine?

Are there different fonts between the accounts that work and the one that doesn't??? You can check the Users>Library>Fonts folder for each. If they're all the same, then at least you've eliminated a font conflict.

Hi girly,

Do you have any proxies checked in the Network preferences settings? If you do, deselect any that are checked.

On a possibly related note, does iTunes appear to be able to connect to the music store without any problems? If that is having problems as well it's normally due to some proxies being mistakenly selected.

Bee-- I am double double checking the fonts thing.

iBod yesterday i did not have a problem with iTunes now i just checked again and got this error:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network Connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network is active, then try again.

I check my network connection and it say that is is working properly. Then I Checked the Proxies and what do you know. that worked.

OMG thank you thank you!
