Indicator light on power adapter turns off

Has anyone experienced the indicator light on their power adapter (on the magsafe connector) just turning off? Mine does occasionally. It still seems to be powering ok when it is off, though. Not really an issue, just an oddity.

Check the magsafe plug and socket for foreign material paying close attention to the center pin. The center pin is shorter than the other four pins. If some magnetic debris has been captured by the magnet in the socket it will prevent the plug from seating completely.

I had the same problem, the light was off, but the battery was still charging. The light was problem was intermitent, it was likely a defective led. Took it qApple store and they replaced the charger and all is well.

I have the 15" MBP Santa Rosa LED, and my power adapter light will just randomly go out. The only way I can get it to come back on is to unplug the MagSafe connector, and then plug it back in. It might works for hours or minutes. The "about this mac" and the menu bar still indicate that it is connected, and powering the computer, but there is no green light. The amber light does not seem to fail, and seems to be lit whenever the unit is charging. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else having this trouble with the new Santa Rosa MacBook Pros?
Thanks for the help,
Doug

Yes, mine just started doing the same thing about a week ago. It still charges but the little light is blank. Disconnecting it and reattaching it somes brings it back. I think it's really an indication that the 90 day warranty just expired - at least in my case (g).)

I had posted a question relating to this same issue on this board and wondered if anyone had found a solution? Looks like the one person here had the charger replaced and I wonder if that was the final solution.

Here's another wrinkle. My MBP was charging to about 87% and then the charge light would cycle between the green and yellow. I fully discharged the battery, no help. And I even took the battery out, no help. Cleaned the contact, no help. And of course, the charge now indicates 100% but the light still cycles equally between yellow and green. Gremlins!!

Im having the same led issue here. What is really weird, if I close the lid, and it sleeps, then I keep moving the closed lid Macbook, it happens to restore from sleep. I'm afraid I'll have to call assistance because warranty expired. I keep turning off the computer and not relying on sleep, as I got used to.
Anyone had this issue?

Today I just noticed a similar problem with my MBP MagSafe adapter. The LED indicator turns green only briefly and then becomes red. The battery indicator on the right upper corner shows that it's being charged. CoconutBattery shows that current battery capacity is 5,227 mAh, dropping from 5,500 mAh after 10 months of use. Battery cycle is 61 cycles. What's wrong with my charger?

I've had this problem (cosmetic issue where the LED no longer lights up) since day 1 with my May 2006 17" MacBook Pro. I was too lazy to get it fixed before the warranty expired.
I believe what's happening in my case is that the center pin of the 5 pins is intermittently making contact to my MacBook Pro. The center pin doesn't stick out as far as the outer 4 power pins. The outer 4 pins are responsible for charging the battery, and those always stay connected, so even when the LED turns off, the adapter is still connected.
I can usually get the LED to turn back on if I disconnect the magsafe connector, and reconnect it carefully. If I twist or bend the power cord enough though, to cause pressure on the connector, the LED will usually turn back off. Actually, it may not turn completely off, and I think it still glows a very very faint green.
Again, in my case, the issue is really just cosmetic and doesn't affect functionality at all.

I just installed the new 1.3 battery update to use on a battery that was, for all but 20-25 seconds at a time 'dead' (and which I was told would not be replaced under AppleCare without payment of a $19 fee) and, for the first time ever, my power adapter LED is blinking from green to amber, green to amber, etc., every 1-3 seconds in an endless cycle.
What's up? I was p.o.'ed enough that AppleCare didn't fully cover the original battery - but if this update eats up the 2nd battery that I purchased when I purchased my MBP, I'm really going to be seeing red.

I've had the same problem recently — the LED on the adapter MacBook Pro mysteriously failing. I thing I've seen both the amber and green LEDs fail. Reconnecting the adapter helps, but sometimes from the second/third time.
This failure is quite unpredictable and I haven't had it in the last few weeks, but you never know when it'll come up again.
