I have the same problem! Vista, with Quicktime Pro which I just purchased - want to unpurchase if this is not resolvable. Anyone know how to fix this?

Count me in on this issue as well. I was previously running QT Pro vs. 7.1.5 under Vista 32-bit without any issues, then upgraded to vs. 7.1.6 and now QT won't run at all, gives me an Error 46 every time and also gives me issues with Sony Vegas 7.

I found the following solution for Vista and XP here: http://research.gerger.com/?view=lab&aID=1006

Step 1: Download subinacl.msi from the link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=23418 and install it.
Step 2: Download my modified version of reset.cmd from http://gerger.com/o/assets/x/?id=22540 and save the file in 'C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'.
Step 3: Open Command Prompt and type the following without quotes (hit Enter):
'cd c:\program files\windows resource kits\tools'
Step 4: Now type 'reset.cmd' and hit Enter (without quotes)
You will see the Command Line Tool running for some seconds. The issue should have been fixed and Quicktime should run again.

Hi, Mariodemaio

I also followed the instructions and did not get it to work, but I messed with it long enough to figure it out..

I noticed when running the reset.cmd file from cmd I was getting "Access Denied!" Errors..

I right clicked "reset.cmd" file itself after I placed it in the correct path as described above, and selected "Run as Administrator" and it worked fine.. I am not sure why I had to do that. since I am the only user/admin on the computer but it worked.

Actually I put it in safe mode then ran it.. but I don't think you have to go that far..

Thanks,
David Eaton

Thank you so much for posting this, I was in the middle of a sound design project when I mistakenly thought an issue with the video was QT related, and I updated into this quagmire.

Thank you for saving my behind.

Now, I have the "buffer overrun detected" error that is mentioned in other posts....

Probably my fault for owning a PC.

Thanks so much! I've been struggling with this on and off for the past couple of days. Searching via Google without resolving this issue. Then it dawned on me to check the discussion board. A few minutes later I had quicktime up and running again following your instructions! What a relief.

I wonder why when I follow the instructions in this thread I get the acces denied error message. I ran it as administrator and now I get 'cannot find the specified file'

I have tried everything possible but I can't get it to work, even though the reset.cmd is saved in the correct path as described above.
I'm running on vista home premium anybody have any ideas? what's supposed to be the last msg after running the script successfully.
Right now I so regret as to why I upgraded to 7.2!!!

Thanks for posting this fix. Apple should fix their installer to handle this properly.
