iPhone Wifi Unable to join Network

Since 3 days now my iphone 3G(3.0) can not connect to a wireless network. Before it connect automatically at home or at work but now it says "Unable to join network". I have reset the network even restore my iphone to default settings. Still it can not connect to a wireless network. But what I dont understand is that it finds wireless networks but can not connect to it even to a free wireless network it keeps on displaying "Unable to join network"
I have called AppleCare they told me to do thesame things I have done.
Any body having thasame problem? Is it hardware or software problem? Please can any body help me? iPhone is no good without wifi...

yup same here! I wasn't planning on getting the new 3GS before my contract expires in October, but but not being able to connect to my home network is pretty annoying and renders most applications useless on an Edge network!

By the way, I have tried to reset the phone, which took forever, but it still didn't work with my home wifi before and after restoring. pitty!

On the plus side, it does connect sometimes and works just fine for a few minutes before it starts going crazy asking for the wifi password and saying unable to connect ...

I am having the same problem now... for the last week or so. I have had this problem under version 3.0 and now version 3.0.1.

I have tried everything short of a full reset - which I may do now.

The problem lies in the iPhone 3G itself - as it won't even connect to wide open WIFI networks without security.

Every single network give me the:

"Unable to connect to network" error message.

In the same boat over here. Lost my home and work Wi-Fi network, even wouldn't recognize any network anymore. I have 1st Gen. iPhone and was working until 3.0 software upgrade. I would keep my eye on this topic and see if somebody will come to conclusion to fix this annoying problem.

!!!!! Does any of Apple moderators ever read this topic !!!!!!!

Same problem here. iPhone 3G running OS 3.0. Wifi was working great then just stopped. Tried many w/less networks (some with, some without security) but it fails to connect to them all. I have another iPhone 3G again running OS 3.0 and it connects every time. Only difference between the 2 is the faulty iphone is my personal one with about 40 apps installed. The other is my work mobile with only about 15 apps installed.

I'm having the same wifi issue here. it started out just after i update to 3.0.1 which I regret I did.

I tried all the possible and mentioned ways on forums to my despair. Nothing is fixing this wifi and I'm sure it is a SOFTWARE problem not hardware. last night i was able to connect to my home wifi but i just did not know how i made it and i really doubt it would work again when i go home.

All what I did is did some tinkering with the bluetooth settings ( turning the wifi off then turning the bluetooth on - restarting - again turning bluetooth off and turning wifi again and then it asked for the password and i was lucky to join my home network)

The above approach made it working but I believe it will not stay connected for long and wifi signal is NOT stable and is very low.

will post my updates here later.

None of the fixes suggested on this forum have worked for me.Spent days redoing my router settings, laptops connected fine. Sometimes iphone saw my network but would not connect. All was well on os3, it all went wrong with 3.01. Is it possible to roll back to os3. Apple support have told me to book an appointment at a store-so that's my next step. The phone is still under 1yr old, so i'm hopefull of a replacement. The question is what os will a new one have and what happens if i upgrade to 3.01 again??
Fix it Apple!!

Whew, use to work at Apple and had a muzzle concerning the discussion board, but now I'm free and clear to complain with the rest of society.

I recently had my iPhone swapped due to the ringer button falling off. Restored my iPhone from the most recent backup and now I'm encountering very poor wifi. My previous unit had 3.01 and no issues other than the ringer button.

I'm usually a 3G person, I figure I pay for 2GB of data I might as well get the most out of it. But those times I want to download larger songs/apps/podcasts directly to my iPhone, wifi is my only route. I'm going to make my way to the Apple Store to have it replaced yet again. Hopefully I'll come back with some good news, but noticing all the complaints concerning this issue, I won't hold my breath.

Hi Everyone,

For this issue "Unable to join the network ..." I follow the suggestion from Robert Hour posted above and my problem is SOLVED.

Basically, the steps I took -

1. Turn OFF wifi --> Turn ON Bluetooth --> Reboot iphone
2. Turn OFF Bluetooh --> Turn ON wifi

It works for my iphone 3G (OS3.0)

Hope this helps you.

Great news it worked for you too Mklim.

The wifi on my iphone is still going fine, no surprises but I reluctant to try to connect to another hotspot. will await untill next friday.

I still believe it's some software conflict between bluetooth and the wifi.if turning off wifi and turning on bluetooth way did not work out for you, try to pair your bluetooth with any other gadget...then reboot.

best of luck to all of us and hopefully APPLE will look into this wifi issue on a more serious and responsible approach to solve it once and forever.
