iPhone 4 Safari Resolution?

Hello,

Now that the iPhone 4 is coming out with an increased resolution of 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi, does that mean that now the mobile web sites that I design for iPhone will be running at 640 pixels wide or will they still be 320 pixels wide?

It depends how you have designed them.

In your mobile web site style sheets you should set the viewport to be the width of the display, then they will scale appropriately.

What happens to your current mobile sites when you rotate the iPhone? Does the site stay at 320 pixels with nothing down the side, or does it scale to fit the 480 width?

When you rotate them, they scale appropriately. I'm just curious what width I need to start creating the creative. What should be the minimum width that I start with now? 320 or 640?

If you want to target the 90million+ users of the current iPhone and iPod touch, then I would design for 320 width but make sure it works and looks as good at 480, 640 and 960.

Fixed width designs don't really work on mobile devices.
