This could be the New IOS4 but I have had several instances where someone was trying to call me and it would not let me answer the call. Screens keep freezing on me and the synchronization of when it turns off the screen is all messed up.
I'm also getting a frozen screen. It wont let me move the slider to unlock the phone, or once I get past that the screen wont recognize me touching it to enter my pass-code. Hitting the home button does nothing. I showed it to an AT&T rep (apple store is too far from work, and they said I needed to bring it back to apple.
I had the same problem and I discovered what it was. I was using my old 3GS skin cover, and it was covering the proximity sensor ... so I removed it, and it worked fine. If you have something like that covering the front face near the sensor, that's likely the issue. I guess I'll need to get a cover made for the 4. Good luck!
I'm having the same problem. Every time I wake it up, the screen is frozen and I can't move the slider. I have to reboot to do anything. There is nothing covering any part of the phone, btw.
i am having similar problems - have a zoomed in home screen that is basically frozen - have performed hard resets, restored twice - it is still just showing a partial screen -- everything is magnified and basically frozen... cannot really move the screen around... really stumped here...
i found this post in another thread - it worked for me: "Somehow you got into one of the accessibility options. Zoom I think. To get out of this, with 3 fingers, double tap and drag up or down. Get back to normal size. , then go to accessibility under general settings and turn Zoom off."
Piling on here in hopes Apple recognizes the problem and fixes it. Zoom off; proximity sensor not blocked, phone reset, phone restored, push off, fetch off, all email accounts set to manual, iTunes re-installed... etc., etc. Same problem as described by others-- unable to answer call, screen frozen, can't even turn off because of frozen screen. Eventually it resets, works OK for a time, then for no apparent reason, it freezes again.
the 3 finger trick actually worked, but really imagine if you had a car problem and the mechanic told you to honk the horn three times while you open and close the trunk of the car to fix that particular problem, what would you think of that car.
Again thanks for posting this weird repair fix, I did also remove the cover that I purchased for the Iphone 4.
Apple please tell me that you will fix this glitch, and don't let those glitches be the tipping point of why apple stock went down the drain.
I'm having the same problem as others in this thread. I'm using an iPhone 3G, but have upgraded to 4.0.1 software. Has anyone found a solution? I'm about to a Restore in hopes that works but if not, would love to hear any other solutions.
I Have 3gs but with the same soft ware as iphone 4 same problem freezes all the time keep crashing out get worse each time. I wish i never upgraded the software its faulty.
My phone freezes everytime I arrive at work and every time I arrive home. I have concluded its freezing after attempting to switch towers, therefore there is a problem with the phone's signal reception. I am sure this could be easily fixed by apple with ajustments in programing and a new OS. So I am hoping they do actually read these threads. My symptoms are that after I have arrived either home or at work, my screen either remains black when waking it up, freezes in the middle of me doing anything on the phone (doesn't matter what), or sometimes I can tell its rebooted itself if I don't use my phone right when I get home or to work because my homescreen's last position is changed. I went to the apple store and they don't do any trouble shooting, they just gave me a new phone but this new one does exactly the same thing. A tip that has helped me cope is when it freezes, if you want to speed up the reboot process just hold the home butting and the power button down together until the apple appears. I have the Iphone 4g 16GB, interstingly my boyfriend has the 32GB and his has never frozen and we live and work in the same areas so his phone is somehow able to handle switching towers. Maybe its got more memory to handle it...
Strange my slide to unlock started to freeze today, I did a soft/hard reset using the top button and the home button and held for 10 seconds, then I went to settings > general and set auto-lock to never, left it like that for an hour then change my setting back to 1 minute....now my slider is not freezing for now....
My iPhone 4G 16G keeps freezing up intermittently in any screen. Once it's in a screen/app/call anything I can't get it to unfreeze or come out of that without shutting it off completely and then it freezes when I restart again. It will stop doing it for weeks or days and then start up again Really frustrating! The Apple store Genius Bar said to restore it to new but then what about my apps? Won't those just mess it up again unless I completely dump all of them and re-purchase and re-load absolutely new ones rather than the ones that are backed up on my computer? This issue is soooo frustrating please help/advise me...
I have had a similar issue with my Iphone 4 32gb. it has frozen from me just trying to open my phone with the slider through to just being in the home screen. I didn't know how to do a hard reset so left my phone to run out of battery life and after it reset it was fine again.... Then it happened the next day. My phone has never frozen up on me up until I have updated it to the new IOS4.
