How do I connect via HDMI from thunderbolt port on Mac book pro of other mac

I have a Macbook Pro ca 2011 with a thunderbold port.

I want to be able to connect the Macbook Pro to an

external monitor for a larger display. With this it will

be much easier to do artwork with a graphics tablet

and Corel Painter.

But as far as I know the way to connect to an external

monitor such as Samsung or LG is via HDMI.

I have a Mini that does have HDMI ports and I have it

connected to a Samsung TV/Monitor with an HDMI

cable.

Thank you for guidance on this question

You are correct, the 2011 MBPro has a Thunderbolt 1 port which is backwards compatible with the mini-display port. If you want to connect the MBP to an external display with an HDMI interface you’ll need a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI dongle or cable.
