Press home to upgrade

Hi all,

My iPhone 6 is stuck on this screen that says, "press home to upgrade" after I reset all the settings because I was experiencing game crashes. When I press home, it's asking me to enter pass code which I did but nothing happened.

I read some article about connecting iPhone to iTunes but that isn't working as well because I haven't connected my phone to iTunes before.

What else to do? I tried to contact chat support but I've waited forever, just kept saying my chat session will start in 2 mins. Please help, I need my phone. Everything's in there.

iPhone 6, iOS 12

Hi rishesa,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with your iPhone 6. It sounds like you are seeing a screen that says "Press Home to upgrade".

You are correct that you will need to connect to iTunes. Try these steps: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen under "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up".

To force restart the iPhone while connected to iTunes:

"iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen."

If iTunes still isn't recognizing your device, then you will need to follow these steps: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

Let us know how it goes.

Have a fantastic day!

Hi brenden,

Thanks for your response. Actually, I followed the same steps you've provided the same night it happened, saw it from one of the discussion about similar problem. I just can't tell if that will solve the problem because while I'm in the process, my phone magically turned on and voilà everything's okay.

Appreciate your help though.
