the old problem: getting a version of iMovie that will run on an older machine

I have a Macbook Pro, 15" Mid 2014, running Big Sur 11.7.10. I have older iMovie applications that I've copied across and I get the message that they are too old and must update to version 10.4. I go to the Apple App store and the only version there will not run on this computer either, requiring a much more recent version of the OS. Naturally the computer cannot update to a later OS.

Where can I get a version that WILL run on this perfectly fine laptop?

As long as you have already "bought" iMovie before, the solution is easy.

Open the App Store, and click on your account at the bottom left.

Locate iMovie amongst your "purchases" and click the download icon (*)

You will be warned that the current version is not compatible, and asked if you want the most recent compatible version.

(*) This has to be done from your account area, and not from the App Store at large.
