Calendar not syncing from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone

I see lots of threads of people having problems in the opposite direction. I maintain my primary calendar on my MacBook Pro and want it replicated on my iPhone 12. I have the appropriate boxes checked in Finder, but when I sync the iPhone with the Mac, I do not see many of my calendar events on my iPhone. I never use iCloud and do not want to, but the calendar is supposed to sync when the phone is connected to the Mac. It used to sync, but that seems to have stopped. I only use the iPhone calendar when I am away from home; that does not work when the calendar fails to sync.
