Calls ringing through AirPods on DND and silenced notifications

This happens unpredictably and wakes me up, despite setting everything up properly.

I don’t have anyone on favorites who are listed as exceptions, and the caller did not repeatedly call to force an exception either. I’ve checked every inch of my settings for notifications and have followed all the directions I can’t find. Is there any kind of secret reason that anyone has discovered? It’s driving me crazy because I live on the West Coast and most of my contacts are out of my time zone, thanks in advance!
