Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) won't stop changing remote volume control to "auto via hdmi" from "TV via IR"

I've had this issue constantly and I can't figure out what is causing it. I am not setting this to "auto". I have it manually set to "TV via IR". I have a Vizio soundbar that is controlled via the same IR signal as the TV. It's ARC ports are not compatible with any 4k or HDR signal, so their use is not an option.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get this to stop? It changes by itself on a daily basis and basically disables my remote's volume buttons until I once again change it back.
