iPad Not Responding To Touch

Older iPad got overheated on a sunny day. Stopped responding to touch. Brought it inside to cool off. Hours later, still not responding to touch. Have tried hard reset. Have cabled to PC and iTunes for update, when that didn't work, tried restore. Restore "works," but the iPad still does not respond to touch for setup. Nada. Nothing.

Is there any hope or should I bin it?

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, including a hard reset and restoring your iPad through iTunes. Since the issue persists even after restoring the iPad, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem, particularly with the touch screen.

It's best to contact Apple Support or visit an authorized service center. They can diagnose the problem and provide further assistance.

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge undisturbed for at least an hour. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

If you continue to experience difficulties, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. If repair is required, you'll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:

Alternatively, you might consider using Apple's mail-in repair service - where your iPad will be assessed. Before any remedial work starts, you will be advised of your options before commencing repairs:

Didn't upvote it as it wasn't the best reply for my situation. There was a lot of detailed info, but it outlined steps I said I had already taken.

You can upvote anything that you believe to be appropriate - or nothing at all as you see fit. However, consider that knowledgeable contributors may include additional information and troubleshooting steps - as, with benefit of experience, they are aware of (and share information for) common issues that might be relevant to a specific problem.
