Will disabling iCloud photos syncing delete local gallery photos?

If I disable iCloud Photos syncing and delete photos in iCloud and then enable syncing again, will it delete the photos from my local gallery?

I deleted photos from my iPad on iCloud while syncing was off. My local photos on my iPad seem to all be unaffected. If I let my iPad sync with iCloud Photos again will the local versions of those photos be deleted? I'm anxious iCloud could wipe all these photos locally on my iPad when syncing the iPad with iCloud again. In order to gain some peace of mind I copied all those iCloud photos to a seperate local folder on my MacBook that never came in contact with iCloud stuff. But still I don't want iCloud Photos to suddenly delete hundreds of images on my iPad if I ever decide to sync the iPad with iCloud again some time in the future. Is there something I could do to prevent that in case it would happen?
