Where to find saved game files if game is installed on external hard drive?

I have just recently bought, downloaded, and installed a computer game directly onto my external hard drive. However, I am curious to know where the saved game files are kept, if and when I need to transfer the game to a new computer without have to repurchase it or start over. Does anyone know where or how I can look those up?
