Inserting drive paths as hyperlink in Numbers?

In a numbers document, I wish to create a hyperlink to another location within a folder residing elsewhere on the computer (same user). Note I'm not talking about the cloud, or a networked computer. Note my destination is NOT an http: location.

I discovered how to find the drive path, and I can paste that drive path into a cell on the Numbers sheet, but it dos not function as a hyperlink from that Numbers document to the folder elsewhere on the computer. It seems that Apple hasn't created an option for this, although it will create links for websites and other sheets within Numbers.

I've tried different combinations of control, option command and right click or left click to activate the drive path as a link, but to no avail.

This is a function I can easily do in Excel but would prefer not to rely on Excel in the future and want the same functionality with Numbers.

In summary: How do I place a drive path into a Numbers document that will hyperlink to this other folder/drive on the computer?

Excel has a lot of functionality that Numbers does not have. It would be nice if Apple would add the ability to link to local files. You may be able to create a local "cloud service" with a NAS (network attached storage) that is configured to use a web interface for file sharing. I've not tried it but it sounds plausible. You'll have to figure out how to configure it to be local network only, not visible on on the web.

You cannot, unless you turn your Mac into an Apache web server. I am not aware of any other way to do it. The server capability is (I hope still is) provided with the computer/OS, nothing else you need to buy/get I don't recommend doing this for security reasons but I thought I'd mention it and you can decide for yourself. As a server, you can access your files using your computer's local http address on your network. I do not recall how to format the path and filenames. It has been a long time since I tried this out.

If you want to link from Numbers to files in a folder on the Mac then you can consider putting the folder into Dropbox (or another service that permits copying of item links) and copy-pasting the item link from Dropbox into a Numbers cell. When you click the link the file will display.

SG,

Good suggestion, but some of the documents I want to link to are sensitive and my concern is that if there is a breach at DropBox, then they will be at risk. This is why in the past I've linked to document folders within the computer itself.

To better understand my application, I'm creating a Numbers document that once I pass on allows the successor to have one place to go to and find critical resources/documents what reside on the computer.

I have already done this in Excel (which allows this functionality), but my copy of Excel is tied to my workplace account. Once I leave there that will go away.

Of course I could just purchase Excel..... But that somehow just grates on me!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm assuming that Apple didn't build this functionality for some specific reason, probably security?
