Iphone 4 Turned off and wont turn on

Thank you all for your feedback. Mine finally came back on after I hooked up to my computer and held down the sleep/wake and home buttons. I tried without hooking up, didn't work. Never would have thought of that on my own. I had two programs running in the background at the time. I closed out before they finished because they were slow. Reason? I also use an after market wall charger. Reason? I don't know, but after reading this, I will avoid both. Thanks

I bought my first iphone (white iphone 4s). Always have I been a big fan of mac products, starting in the late 80's! very little to no problems, with any including my itouches I have owned. So when I tryed to start my 3 day old phone today and seen it was not responding, I decided to search the net for answers, I ended up hooking my phone to my work computer, holding both buttons down to get it to come on.

Will there be a fix for this? what if we are in the field when this happens and we do not have a computer handy?

You don't really have to connect it to a computer or charger unless the battery is dead. Holding HOME and SLEEP for 10-20 seconds is how you reboot an iPhone.

I have only had my iphon 4s 10 days and it just did exactly the same thing! Thanks to this post it has now come back on - was really worried for a while. Does anyone know what the problem is or why it does it? Really hope it doesn't happen again.

I've had my 4S for three months, IOS 5. Same problem as all of these posts, same fix to get it going again. When is a permanent fix coming from Apple?

There is no permanent fix. The operating system crashed. It happens on Windows, it happens on Macs, it happens on Linux, and it even happens on mainframes. It also happens on Android (very frequently), Kindles, Nooks, Windows Mobile and Symbian. When it crashes you reboot. Just like you do on other computers.

That's a common misconception; the iPhone isn't a cell phone, it's a very powerful pocket computer that, by the way, can also make phone calls 😁

Now guys this is funny! My iphone 4 switched off all of sudden at night, would'nt start all night, morning while I started reading these comments, started on its own! Thats weird!

hey guys... i got d same problem too... just bought a new iphone 4s yesterday. But today my phone suddenly turn off and won't turn on. i do exactly the same step as you guys, (press start + home) but it just showing the apple logo.... 😟 *sigh*

Since you just got it I would take it back.
