And they call this a software upgrade? Works with 5 or 6 different HP printers.

I guess you could ask for a refund for the upgrade?

But seriously AirHPPrint is not really printing, if you sold a computer that could only print to 8 printers from one manufacturer you would be pretty annoyed.

I suppose we should be grateful that it wasn't made to work with the new Apple iPrinters .......

This is a truly unfortunate disservice to the iPad community. Adding Air Print is fine, but removing prior shared printing functionality without clearly communicating that fact every time Air Print is discussed is just bad consumer relations. You should never remove features without telling users up front they are passing through a one-way door.

Who on earth wants to buy yet-another printer so they can print from their iPad?

Users never had this feature - only developers in the beta program - so there was no "prior shared printing functionality" in existence for the customers.

Apple did not communicate this well - they never do, however, preferring the Orwellian style (remove the mention of it from the Apple web pages without telling anyone and never officially comment on it). Apple's MO has never been to express this kind of problem or (even more so) to explain why.
There are work-arounds, however, which somebody can use while Apple resolves the technical and/or legal issues that seem to be the root of the change in their plans.

I found another app for the computer that also enables AirPrinting to work. It's called Fingerprint and is only $7.99 ( http://www.collobos.com). You get a 6 day trial period to see if it works with your printers before having to purchase. It sees all the printers on my home network and I can print from my iPhone & iPad.

I am not going to spend a lot time complaining about it not working with all printers. I found a way to make it work for me and that is good enough. I am just thrilled to have folders to organize all my apps and to be able to multi-task. It's like having a brand new iPad.

Just buy a new printer (and apple gets a cut)

How does Apple get a cut if you buy a new printer (unless you buy one from them)?

And, as has been mentioned many, many times - you *do not* have to buy a new printer to use AirPrint. It works with hundreds of existing printers using Printopia or FingerPrint (which again, Apple gets no cut from).
