iphone 3gs wifi network "unable to join"

since I updated my wife's iphone 3gs to the latest and greatest version she has not been able to login or "join" any wifi network. the phone picks up any and all networks but when you ask to join...it will not. anyone have any suggestions for the fix before we head off the the apple store.

i have tried several things pertaining the phones network settings but nothing has worked. the crazy thing is...it finds the wifi but will not allow it to join!!

Same problem here. I have an iPhone 3G that worked great until I upgraded to 4.2.1. Now my phone "sees" wifi networks, but gives me an "Unable to Join" error. I have reset my router, done a hard restart, restored my phone, deleted network settings and nothing works. The Genius at the Apple store wanted to sell me a new phone.

I have the same issue. - I see the wifi list, but cannot connect to my home-network. I've tried all possible fixes I could get my hands on through a google search. It is starting to get me worried.
- Does anyone have any suggestions to a fix for this issue?

****! Have the same issue. I thought my wifi was shot untill i read this post. I will not DHCP correctly.

I have the same problem, with a brand new iPhone, in the UK. Funny thing is it was working in the store!

I confirmed last night by rolling back to 3.1.3 that my iPhone 3G now can join a network correctly!
Must be a bug in 4.2

Go to Settings/General/Reset and Reset Network Settings. Then reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds, ignore "Slide to power off")

If it worked in the store (and presumably on other WiFi networks) the problem is your router. First reboot the router - turn it off for about 10 seconds). If it still doesn't connect verify that your router has the latest available firmware.

If it's a bug in 4.2 why aren't there millions of posts complaining about it? And why does my phone work just fine?

I had the same problem suddenly crop up on my iPhone 4--couldn't find/join any wifi network. The suggestion here to reset the network settings worked for me--didn't have to reboot.

I've got the same problem on my 3GS and so does my wife on her 3G.
I've reset the network settings but it still doesn't work.

I'm using a Cisco 300N wireless router and had this problem every time the phone sat unused for a few minutes. The only way to fix it was powering off the router for 10 seconds. Same at my friends house with his D-Link.

I got into the routers wireless setups and set the "Key Renewal" to 7200 seconds. Now I only have to reset the router maybe once a week. Ditto with my friends router.
