QR Reader on iPhone unable to read kml link?

My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 with verizon with the QRREADER app on it. It has been able to read all website QR codes and opens them properly but when the code for the hosted kml file: http..(example)..kml is read it cannot open up the link. Note: when the link is emailed to the iPhone, tapping on it opens the file in Google Earth no problem.

I am an Android user and have tested the above mentioned QR code on my phone, it asks me if I would like to view in Google Maps or Google Earth and then opens properly in both.

I am wondering if the QR code for KML files is not able to be read by iPhone OS?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Huskie,

Thanks for the response. Been fooling with this for a while and its very frustrating! We have tried several different apps with the same result- file will not open. I have attached a copy of the QR code- it defintely works on the droid, no go on the iphone. Lets see if you have any luck with it. The associated link for it is:

Thanks,

This same question was posted on Google Earth Forums and was finally answered today. Unfortunately it was not the answer I was hoping for, It appears IOS does not support MIME types. This is required to view KML files. Here is what Mark from Google Said:

"Hi Dave We looked into this a bit more and it seems that the problem is that iOS doesn't support MIME types [1]. So ultimately, this is an issue that the Apple team will have to address in order to enable Google Earth launching when linking to KML files via a QR code. We'll do our best to advocate for it!
