Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

Same problem here, 3GS very sluggish after upgrade. I am not using iCloud, all features turned off.

I have noticed the same battery drain referenced by others and the back of the iPhone is noticably hot -- and it now takes for ever to charge. Connect the dots and....as stated in another post, the CPU is running at high utilization level (downloaded sysstats lite and CPU utilization was over 90%). Funny, I had a similiar problem in Win7 trying to do the upgrade (should have followed my instincts) and had to track down how to stop AMDS from consuming 90% of my laptop CPU.

Anyway, as suggested in the other post, I disabled Notification Center and CPU utilization is down to a respectable ~6-10% when idle. The phone is now as resposnive as it was before the upgrade...but no notifications.

Ok Apple, seems like at least part of the problem has been identified, how about iOS5.01 please!!!

I'm having the same issues as everyone else with the added frustration of fluctuating volume when listening to music. I have tried all the fixes, though nothing works. This is atrocious Apple and unacceptable, and users should be warned prior to ugrading. Surgeon General Warning: This upgrade could harm your iPhone 3gs. its not like Apple has a multitude of phones to test their upgrades on. As far as i'm aware there are only three models.

Thanks Apple you have just convinced me to buy the Samsung Nexus when it is released in November.

Hi guys tried to sort out lag issues by following your steps. But came across new problem.

I've disabled iCloud all features including send annonous report to apple. Was kind of ok. Then disabled weather and stock widget from nottification centre.

Then for some reason I've desIded to tester all settings thinking that this might sort out some problem. Again all ios5 features disabled. Weather stock iCloud calendars from all mails. But no lag fix for horizonatl scroll and seek slider on videos and YouTube. However now I've noticed that my GPS is always on. And within 20 min it drains 15% of the battery( all apps are closed phone has been restarted few times but its still there).

Other then that over all performance ha been improved little bit still no good as it was on ios4!

Come on apple at least reply to this post. Say that you working on ops 5.0.1 or something. So we expect it to be fixed and wait for update.

Random app crash and lags continue.

My phone is about 10 times slower since the IOS 5 update. its really painful. I refuse to install IOS5 on my ipad and its works a dream.

Also music has got a lot more tinnier on ios5. dont know why.

Plus My battery has drained from 100% to 23% in 5 hours and its been idle for 4 of those hours. terrible.

I think which each software update the worse it makes the phone.

I have the same problems as all the rest of the folks on this thread. I was considering moving to Iphone 4s, but this problem has happened to my 3GS every time there is a major software upgrade, so I suspect it will continue on the 4s as well. It may be time to switch to an Android phone. Sorry Apple, the customer is king and this one is pretty annoyed

Same thing as with all of you guys. After IOS5 update iPhone 3gs takes way too long to load apps and even to open messages and phone. Tried turning off iCloud, restarting and mostly everything that was recommended here but it still doesn't go as fast as it used to. This is ridiculous! I still have a contract and cant go and buy a new phone just because Apple says so! If IOS5 is not compatible with 3gs why don't they just let us know before!

Is there really no way to go back to previous IOS??

We have two iPhone 3Gs in my household that are now both sluggish. I tried some of the tips mentioned which did help somewhat but they are still slow. I understand that it's an old phone ( 2 years old, I guess that's old in the phone world ) but the software updated should't have been available if it kills the phone. At least a warning.

Seems like the product useablility cycle should be more than 2 years. Funny that the AT&T contract is 2 years.

By the way, I'm typing this on a vintage 8 year old PowerBook G4 that works fine.
