Soft subtitles in videos app ios 5 is broken

I noticed that too. First I thought it's the iPhone 4S, but today I updated my iPhone 4 with iOS 5 and I have the same problem.

BTW: It only happens if you enlarge the video (double tap), it's fine in the normal mode.

Please fix that!

Ik zie inderdaad dat het midden in het scherm komt, en dat je halve zin wegvalt.

Maar ze lijken wel het juiste formaat? In ios4 waren ze ontzettend klein?

Kan je dit bevestigen?

Completely agree the subtitles management *****, the fading is really bad and 1 sentences /2 is missing. Thinking about downgrading cause I love VOST and as a french guy I can't downloaf dubbed movies.

Please apple , ipad is a multimedia device... Subtitles management need to be improved...

There's an app called GPlayer. I think subtitle handling is quite good. It's a free app, so worth a try.

EDIT: I'm afraid it is no longer available for free.

I too have been having this issue with the latest update to the OS. I can no longer watch movies with soft subtitles, only with baked-in subtitles because of the missing second line in each subtitle.

I send feedback to apple using www.apple.com/feedback, let's hope this gets fixed in the next update.

I'm also having trouble with soft subtitles on my ipod 4 with ios5...

they aren't even showing and unlike ios4 where it gave me the option to toggle on and off this functionality isn't even included. At least not for me...

I tried a complete restore deleting all settings and everything thinking that maybe something was wrong.

anyway I hope it's just ios related and that it will be fixed soon... otherwise does anyone know how to revert back to ios 4.3.5?

You are lucky you have soft subtitles in iOS5 at all... here both my iPad and iPhone have lost the ability to display them after the software update. 😟

READ THIS CAREFULLY

In iOS5, the subtitles seem to give problems to many users. Although, I managed to set up soft subtitles on my iPad, which now views it in correct size on the screen AND on an external monitor.

Problems:

It seems that many soft-subtitle encoding applications don't handle things right. Applications involved: Handbrake (makes subtitle's second line dissapear) and iSubtitle (which makes the entire subtitle dissapear).

Solution:

I use a little application called Subler. It is easy to find on google. Download it, and find out how it works, because this is the way to do it.

I don't think that's the point. I have a series of subtitled videos which work OK with iTunes, QuickTime, etc. They worked OK with iOS4. With iOS5 they are no longer working. I would tend to think that the problem is in iOS5, not in the encoding software.

Hey vegaz I CAN'T see any subtitles nor the option to toggle them on and off (so don't feel unlucky)... and yeah just like you they were working perfectly well with 4.3.5! and jeroney stevens I didn't use either of those programs to do the encoding and my method worked perfectly before as it should now 😟

also one episodes that previously played through without an error in any way now crashes to home screen upon selection...
