I'm missing the microphone icon for voice dictation on iPhone 4s. Everywhere I read it's says, to use voice dictation just press the microphone icon.
I seem to be missing one. Siri is activated and works fine.

Try a reboot, hold power and home till the apple logo appears. If that doesn't get it restore as a new phone. Do not use a back up to get your stuff back. Back up any data specific to apps that let you do that and have a restore feature though. It's a pain but it usually cure weird stuff like that. Had to do it with my new 4s. The photo and camera system locked up.

With more searching I was able to find the problem. Siri only recognizes some languages, and to be able to use the voice dictation and for the microphone icon to appear, you need to select an aditional keyboard, a keyboard in a language that supports Siri.

Siri must be enabled before the microphone icon is visible. Phone comes with it disabled.
If you go settings > general > Siri > and voice feedback and take off always to handsfree only it worked for me
Just as an add on to this thread. To see the microphone icon as Madrod suggested:
you need to select an aditional keyboard,
A keyboard in a language that supports Siri but also the keyboard selected must be the language you have defaulted for Siri. My Siri is in english so when I use my keyboard in french or portuguese Siri will not be there to support me. If Siri is defaulted to french, it will not be there to support me in english. Thanks Madrod for pointing me into the right direction.
Siri has to be turned on. Go under Settings > General > Siri and turn the feature on.
Under settings, general, accessability, speakautotext. Turn it on or sometimes u must turn it off then back on to reset.
US extended keyboard did it for me. Had it on US and microphone would not show up. Strange thing is, I don't remember changing keyboard in the first place. Woke up one day and dictation mic was just GONE.

Thanks Thanks to your post I was able to restore the microphone icon to the notes app that came with my iPhone five thank you for your help

Thanks for joining the ASC. However, you might want to take a look at the date of the post that you responded to. This thread is 3 years old.
Reading this post it wasnt clear to me what should be looked at 1st for a solution. That is enabling -> Settings/General/Kayboards/Enable Dictation. (turn on)
The reason it was not clear was because of the age of this post. The post was created and answered before the setting you describe. It was not necessary to do this in the past.
