does the iPhone applecare warranty cover a cracked backplate by us. it says that it covers up to two incidents of accidental damage each subject to a $49 service fee but is that if we drop it or is that out of the box.

Does AppleCare come with the iPhone. Not AppleCare+. If so does it also cover the same things as +
the iphone dosn't come with apple care its an optional extension of the coverage period
Go to the Apple website and make a service appointment for the Genius Bar at your local Apple store. Be sure to connect your phone to iTunes and back it up before you go. They may repair it or just replace it.

Apple Care + is the new Apple Care warranty extension for your iPhone that is offered with the new iPhone 4s. Any iPhone automatically comes with a one year warranty that covers internal problems. If you drop your iPhone or break the glass, and do NOT have Apple Care Plus, you are going to pay full price for repair or a replacement phone.
AND the full price of the phone is expensive.
For example, if you purchase a new 16 GB iPhone 4 s WITH a contract with one of their cell carriers, the phone is $ 199.00. That's very reasonable, but that's because AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon are subsidizing the cost of the phone in order to get you to sign a 2 year contract for cell carrier service.
BUT if you are still in a 2 year contract, and are NOT eligible for a full upgrade, you may pay substantially more for a replacement iPhone.
If you have a broken iPhone 4s and did NOT purchase Apple Care + originally WITH your phone, check the Apple website to see what your options may be. The site is temporarily down, because of "Black Friday" updates. Black Friday sales start on Apple's site in about 15 minutes.
