Same here. Seems to have started with 5.0.1 for me. That seem true for you?
Call applecare, escalate the call if necessary. Have them guide you into doing a DFU restore. If this doesn't fix the problem, send your 100 crash reports to an engineer. Your software may be corrupt and need reflashing. Applecare is $19/incident if you are out of warranty, you only pay if they fix it with unlimited followup.
Please post back the results of the call. Thank you.
I just bought the New iPad with retina display and it did the same thing, It will shut down Facebook and Safari a lot so I contacted Apple care and they replaced my iPad and now this one does the same thing it has the newest software and all Apps up to date but I'm going to restore it tonight and just add one App a week to test to see if its a certain App or just the iPad software itself but I have a feeling it's the iPad software and it makes me mad that I paid so much for a tablet that cost so much that doesn't work
I have the same situation on my ipade2, but I solved that problem now. I'm not sure will it works on yours. I did bring it to apple store to ask for help, but they said it's the hardware problem. If replace a new one, that cost $249 and plus tax because expired the warranty. So I tried to fix again by myself. I pressed the left side power button and held it for a few minutes, the screen stayed stable and didn't shut off and turned on itself any more. So I used a rubber band to circle the left top corner to keep pressing down the power button, then I could use it for half day without problem. When I need to turn it to sleep, I set the iPad cover lock/unlock to "on" , then it can stay off until next time you open the cover and it will turn on for you to use. After 2 days I removed the rubber band, it just go normal. I hope it can work on everybody have that problem.
My ipad is shutting down and switching on automatically.
This may be a kernel panic (they do happen on the ipad). Does it happen often? Is it looping now?
Yes it is looping now.
OK.
Press the power button and home button down until the device shuts off.
Power it back on after 1 minute.
Let me know if that solves it.
If it happens again, post back and we'll do a restore procedure.
This I have tried. But no luck.
No luck after restoring my iPad to new it will still close down my apps randomly so I hate my iPad and will never buy another apple product
Try this: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
You should also try even before that if you can contacting Apple support. It's $20 only if they fix it.
The genius bar is free for software issues.

My iPad is still under warranty and this is the second iPad I have been given the first one was less than a month old when it started to do this I have video of it shutting down my Facebook ever time I clicked a notification
Does it only happen with the Facebook app? Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Delete the app completely and reinstall the latest version. Actually, upgrade all of your apps. And upgrade your OS too, via iTunes. (do it in that order.)
Post back.

P.S It looks like you did not do the dfu restore as I asked. Please do what I ask you, or if you don't think it's the right thing, let's agree on a plan of action. Complaining is not going to do any good. Apple does not read these boards.
Well just contacted apple support and they setup a genius appointment to have my iPad replaced once again, well I a disappointed I paid for a brand new iPad and expected it to work and it didn't so they said they will replace it well they replaced it with a used refurbished model that I didn't pay for, if I wanted a refurbished model I would have bought one for a lot less than I paid now the refurbished iPad is malfunctioning and they just want to replace it with yet another refurbished model. I am truly disappointed in Apple and won't be buying another one of their products since I paid so much and have ended up with used model.
No happens with Safari also and yes I have done a DFU restore and it still does the same thing. My iPad is running the latest ios and all my apps are also up to date and I only have a couple apps on here as I didn't restore my back up and have just added one app at a time but the problem persist. Thanks Sam
But Safari doesn't give notifications.
I'm concerned your notifications system may be broken with regard to Facebook.
Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook app?
also, turn on private browsing with Safari, close all tabs, and try going to the problematic website? does it work?
