There is a lock symbol at top of my iPhone and I cannot flip the phone screen sideways. I believe the two are connected but cannot find how to unlock so when I flip the phone sideways I view the screen the same way. Does anyone know if the two are connected and how to unlock?

Double tap the Home button, swipe the multitaskbar to the right till you see the music icon, tap the left icon with the circle arrow to lock/unlock orientation.
Simple. Double tap your home button to reveal the multi tasking bar. slide to the right to get to the music controls. when you're there, just tap the button with the lock on it (:
