My iPad froze during an upate, now after several attempts to reboot the screen has an itunes and usb logo.

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

You need to restore the iPad now and more than likely you will need to use recovery mode. Read the instructions here.

Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes and see if you can restore without recovery mode. See what happens when you connect the iPad and go from there.
