My 18 month old is playing "hide the apple tv remote from daddy".... How do I turn home sharing w/out the original remote?

Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, you will need the supplied remote in order to enable homesharing on the Apple TV.
You could purchase a new remote from any apple store, will put you back about 20$.
if you have an ipad or iphone you can down load a remote app. this should pick up your apple TV and i think it is free!!

No, unfortunately you cannot do that unless home sharing is turned on, which is what the 0P is trying to turn on.

Not a problem, I'm guessing that actually the OP is hoping to use the remote app after somehow turning on home sharing by another method.
As Winston said... you really need to have homesharing already turned on.
Or, read one of the top replies in your posted thread if you don't believe him...
THIS DOESN'T WORK YOU HAVE TO ALREADY HAVE HOME SHARING TURNED ON YOUR IPAD OR IPHONE... SO WOW YOU ALREADY HAD CONTROL OF THE TV, IF YOU DONT HAVE A REMOTE YOU CANT DO ANYTHING IT'S JUST A F*CKING BLACK BOX !!!
