New iPad "unable to join network"

I have a new iPad (3rd gen) running the latest version of ios. I use a iPad, iPhone and MacBook pro at work and regularly connect to a unsecured wireless network with each of them. Or at least I used too!

One day my iPad which had previously connected fine, just stopped connecting. I receive the error message "unable to join xxxxx network". Ever since it has not connected again. The iPhone and MacBook continue to work fine. Other colleagues iPads also connect fine and my iPad connects to every wireless network other than this one.

The network uses Microsoft gateway, which essentially means when you connect to the unsecured network you type in your username and password into a webpage. Although I cannot even get to this stage on my iPad as it refuses point blank to join the network.

I have tried everything suggested in other posts on here. I have tried: forgetting the network, wifi on and off, rebooting, resetting network settings, brightness settings, static ip address like the iPhone when it's connected, hard reset of iPad, restored iPad, restored iPad to completely new and not installed a thing, installed certificates. The only thing I cannot do it restart the router, all other devices connect fine.

My username and password for the network are fine, I spoke to it, they use no mac filtering or blocking, it is completely unblocked. I have been to different places in the building to try and on different routers round the building all of which create a building wide wifi - none work. I am well and truly stumped And have tried everything suggested in previous posts.

I am at this stage assuming it must be a bug in the software and am hoping iOS 6 resolves it. I have no idea why it started doing this but it is really frustrating. I have a wifi only model so it really limits what I can do with my iPad at work, which was lots before it stopped working.

Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated! Thanks.

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

Additional things to try.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I also had an similar issue.

On my ipad3 I was running IOS5 & everything was fine.

I upgraded to IOS6 and instantly I couldn't connect to my wifi.

Everyone (apart from Apple) seem to know this is a known issue with IOS6 and certain routers, when I called apple they weren't helpful at all, saying maybe my iTunes laptop had a virus, etc

I fixed the issue myself, it may not work for everyone, but I thought I'd post it here.

Basically IOS6 has issue with certain Wireless Routers - mine was a NETGEAR PROSAFE DUAL BAND WIRELESS ACCESS POINT Model: WAG102

I DOWNGRADED the Firmware on my router to the oldest one & then IOS6 worked again 🙂

Not an ideal solution, but it worked for me & its better than waiting for 3months until Apple might fix IOS6.
