Why does My iPad have a split keyboard
The keyboard on my iPod suddenly split in two and shrunk in size and each half withdrew to one side of the screen. How can I get my keyboard back to normal?

Hi nevets2,
I see that you accidentally enabled the split keyboard feature on your iPad and you’re looking to get the keyboard back to normal. I’d be happy to help you accomplish this!
To merge a split keyboard, please follow these instructions:
Merge a split keyboard
To turn Split Keyboard on or off, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Split Keyboard.
How to split and move the keyboard on your iPad - Apple Support
Take care!
Tap and hold the bottom right key on the keyboard and drag up/down where you want the keyboard.
Use two fingers (one hand or both) to squeeze the keyboard back together or split it apart.
Thank you. That was EASY! I appreciate your explanation
Here is a video showing how to disable iPad split keyboard :
Thanks

The split keyboard, for use when the iPad is in the portrait mode, makes it easier to type on the device with just two thumbs by splitting the keyboard
iPad actually has six phantom buttons allowing users to tap the opposite side of the screen to where the T,G,V and Y,G,B buttons are and still have them registered by the keyboard. Tap just next to the letter ‘Y’ and you’ll be given a letter ‘T.’
It might not seem like much, but it can really help speed things along if you tend to type this way on a hardware keyboard.
Thanks. It worked!
The redmondpie site really explains the phantom keys- this is definitely cool!
You can fix it in 3 ways
1. Drag keyboard toward each other with 2 fingers
2. Hold the keyboard button down for a second or two and select merge
3. Settings>General>Keyboard>Split Keyboard>Off.
Crazy, replying to an old post 😝
The instructions I found were wrong. There is a small keyboard icon in the bottom right hand corner. Press and HOLD. A menu will pop up, slid your finger into the menu and select UNDOCK or SPLIT. If you in the split view do the same thing and select DOCK and MERGE to get the original keyboard back.
This has to be the dumbest thing Apple ever did, what the ****? They think we have 4 eyes, or something? How in the **** is a split keyboard in any way, useful. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I was a Cryptanalyst for NSA, I know smart, and this ain't it.
It's for people use to texting with their thumbs.
Hi jameson.h. Are you practicing by responding to 5-year old questions? That have already been answered?
This has to be some sort of glitch. Maybe I should say that I hope it was some sort of glitch. We don't know what the Community Specialists see that we don't see, so who knows. Weird though.
