Apple TV and AirPlay Requirements

I'm assuming AirPlay and Mirroring are two discrete "functions" that can be done with the Apple TV.


- If one just wants to stream a movie or TV show from iTunes then is just AirPlay sufficient, but not Mirroring?


This http://www.apple.com/appletv/airplay/ "seems" to confirm that.


- For just using AirPlay, what are the computer/mobile hardware requirements and what are the OS X, and iOS requirements?


For instance, can one use AirPlay with a MacBook (mid 2010) running Snow Leopard or does it have to be Mountain Lion? Does it have to be a 2011 MacBook to use AirPlay?


Again, from what I've read, I'm only interested in AirPlay and not Mirroring (that's if I interpret what I've read correctly).

Any computer running iTunes 10.2 or better is capable of AirPlay with the Apple TV.


AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.
