How can I record with GarageBand 1.3 in the background using other app?
I use iPad 2 with iOS 6 and GarageBand v1.3.
I'd like to play an other app like Sunrizer synth while the GarageBand is recording in the background in a track.
By now I can do it only using the build-in mic of iPad, but this is not the point.
Can I record other apps in a GarageBand track?

The red GarageBand (Recording) banner when you switch away from GarageBand is a red herring. Saving your project is what it really does. I believe there are some apps that can transfer recorded data into GarageBand but I don't have a list.

What the new feature "rec in the background" actually means?
Use the wrench in GarageBand to access Settings > Run in Background. This will indeed let GarageBand record in the background while you play music with another app.

As I said, only with buil-in microphone. Is it any other way to record initially.

As far as I can tell there is no way (as yet) for GarageBand to record the output of a different app directly from the sound system rather than recording it via the microphone. 😟

You can record background sound, while capturing video, taking pictures, and taking notes. Not all GarageBand Users necessarily want to make high quality music.
Yep I tried it today, it works but records the sound via the mic, not direct from the other app.

You can record sound made with another other app I guess, albeit picking up some ambient noise at the same time.
Would be much better if it had an option to record only the other app while letting you choose whether GarageBand also plays in the background.

It is a protection against copyright violation. If you could record directly the audio of other apps, you could capture protected audio content.
I suspect you are probably correct about the reasoning, although there are already a myriad of ways to do that. As ever protection prevents legitimate uses while not really being a hindrance to illegitimate ones. 😟

Don't get me wrong - I never said I like this. But it is consistent with other Apple applications, that are similar restrictive; you cannot take a screenshot, when dvd-player is running for example.
That are the moments, when I am glad that MacOS X is a unix system under the hood 😝
