Re-download purchased ringtones

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later. Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

I am having the same problem I called apple and they told me that it's gone cost me $90 for them to help me I just paid over 1400 for two iPhones plus over $200 in songs can anyone tell me how to get my ringtones back

I've had the same very frustrating problem for the past few days, with purchased ringtones not staying on my device (iPhone 6 on 8.1.1). The only way i could work around it was to find the original ringtone file in the iTunes library, make a copy of the file, renaming it with an m4r extension, deleting the original file, and then resyncing with my iPhone.

Since I never downloaded or synced my ringtone purchases to my iTunes library, I had to go this route. I'm on iOS 8.1.2 on an iPhone 5.
