Hi tvpaint,
I also had this problem with my iPhone 4s, my guess is that you performed the update wirelessly?
I have tried many ways of fixing this including but not limited to factory reset via the latest version of iTunes and they do not work. I have seen elsewhere people saying that the update can fry the wireless card however I believe it is more likely to be a firmware problem in the rush to release the IOS 6 update with the iPhone 5 they must not have had time to test this thoroughly.
Call your local Apple store and allow them to talk you through performing the standard resets on your device, chances are your Apple "Genius" will not know of the problem and simply assume it is a hardware fault allowing you to replace your iPad if it is under warranty.

I have had the same problem!
the wifi option is greyed out and i cannot turn it on, i have restored network settings, restored it as new phone and it is still not working! is this an hardware issure and should i take it to apple?
Hi m187,
Yes your best bet is to make an appointment with your local Genius Bar and assuming that your iPhone is under warranty they will provide you with a "Remanufactured" model.
(A "Remanufactured" iPhone is basically a factory refurbished iPhone made with a new case and screen but recycled internal components.)
The bloke at the Apple Store told me the reason for this problem is that the wifi component in the phone was already damaged and the update simply recognises that the component is broken, I am not convinced and still think that this is a driver incompatibility issue.
Would you mind informing me for my own curiousity wether you updated via wifi or via iTunes?
First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

That would be a valid hypothesis, except for the fact that there have been reports of WiFi being greyed out on some phones after every iOS update over the past 5 years.
Yeah I updated to iOS 6 about a few weeks ago wirelessly but the the problem just occurred yesterday?
it is still not working , should i take it to genius bar?
Yes. They will probably replace the phone. Be sure to do a backup before taking it to them, so you can restore the replacement phone and not lose any data.
do i need to take my reciept?
Enter your serial number here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If your phone shows up you don't need your receipt.
tried it all and it doesnt work
If you followed all of the instructions and nothing worked then your phone is broken.
This happened to me after I updated my iPad and all I had to do was turn it off and on and then it worked. Hope I helped:)
