Apple TV - Can't Sign In, or use YouTube (but other stuff works)

Apple TV was working fine up until yesterday.

I had rented & watched Men in Black 3 and it was all good - that was my first day experience wi Apple TV - great!

Now it's all gone downhill...

Nothing changed on my network - connecting wired directly to my router/modem to the net.

Apple ID is fine as i've tested it on other iDevices.

I have the iTunes Store set to Australia with correct Time Zone.

I've got Home Sharing turned on with my Apple ID on the Apple TV and it's working.

The problems ...

When I try to Sign In, I either get (it's random) ... 'Unable to Sign In - Apple TV can't connect to the server at this time. please try later.', OR 'Unable to Sign In - The Apple ID you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect. Please try again.'

When I try to watch YouTube I get ... 'No content was found - There is a problem communicating with YouTube. Try again later.'

Funny thing is everything else works - Movies & TV Shows previews, iTunes Festival, Trailers, Vimeo etc.

*** ? Any ideas guys?

FYI - I'm with iiNet (Australia).

I am running into the exact same thing all day today.

I am in canada and cannot access any of my purchases on Apple TV. It will not log me into the Itunes store for it.

My credentials work in itunes on my pc. Just not the apple tv. And I can watch stuff like the trailers also, so it isnt a problem access the internet.

I am having the exact same problem as well, since I updated to 5.1 today. Normally my wired connection is just fine, but noticed after the update that my switch no longer indicates it is a gigabit connection with my ATV3...seeing this I tried connecting via wifi and all my problems disappear! If I switch back to a wired connection, I cannot connect to iTunes account again...this is not a HW problem, I have troubleshooted this already and is related to the SW upgrade, IMHO.

This worked for me ...

1. Get errors on wired connection.

2. Unplug wired LAN cable.

3. "Reset All"

4. Reboot ATV

5. Connect to Wireless

6. Try YouTube

... when you try wireless are you sure your wired LAN cable is unplugged?

Are you using the latest ATV software?

What wireless are you connecting to? I'm connecting to an Apple Time Capsule.

No I still get the YouTube "No content was found. There is a problem communicating wht YouTube. Try again later.": Error message,

Yes the Ethernet Cable was unplugged.

Wireless is a D-Link Wireless Hub

Latest ATV software on both my ATV 3 and ATV 2 (Yes same issue on both units, and both were previously hardwired - only tried the wireless on the ATV 3)

Using the wireless also severely impacts my ability to stream movies from both my home network slow and unstable (keep losing my connection) and from iTunes is extremely slow.

I'm not having all of the same issues mentioned above. I can login into my Apple Account when hardwired, no issues, I can login to and out of my youtube account. Every App on the Apple TV seems to work except YouTube. I'm not convinced this is an Apple TV issue, on Google's forums the last time this error started poping up it was a sharing issue within your YouTube account that had to be set. Unfortunately those solutions don't apply to the way Google YouTube works now, none of the screens they referred to or menus exist any more.

Same problem here in Australia. Can't access content via ethernet. Tried all manner of power downs, resets, full restore etc, restarting and checking network and router settings. Pinging the ATV was fine over ethernet, previews would download, but itunes could not be accessed. Nothing seemed to resolve it until I found this thread, pulled out the ethernet cable it connects using wifi just fine.

I've never used ATV with wifi before and its a workaround, but at least its working. Lets hope we get an update soon to fix the issue so we can go back to ethernet for those who've gone to the touble of wiring their houses for better performance. Just to confirm, everything else on the network is working perfectly with ethernet. Its not a network issue, its an ATV upgrade issue. Would like to be proven otherwise, but certainly looks like bad form and quality assurance on this update. Seriously disappointing when a high bandwidth device doesn't work with ethernet. Hopefully our faith can be restored soon!!!

It start couple of days ago when my wife "accidentally" update latest version of the software for ATV. I am getting "Unable to connect to server" message all the time!

Looking on a forum it is clearly problem with the latest software version.

I had my ATV connected via WiFi since ever and it is not "cable" problem. I see latest episode of the show as unwatched but I can only watch preview. Always "Unable to connect..." message!!

Found a way :-) Download the show to my iPad and then AirPlay it to ATV. Stupid and complicated but was the only way to watch the show on big (TV) screen.

Really hope that the Apple will soon come up with "update" to fix this problem!

The "No content was found" error was finally resolved for both of my Apple TVs after I reset my Netgear VPN Firewall. I started looking at my Netgear equipment after a few people had reported problems with Netgear and iOS devices

My Apple TVs were hardwired,

1) I reset my Netgear VPN Firewall

2) I assigned fixed IP addresses to my Apple TVs

3) I reset my Apple TVs

4) I assigned IP addresses manually for the Apple TV

5) Entered my Apple ID / Password

6) Entered my YouTube User Name ( not my Login Name ie. nickname@email.com) and password.

I'm just happy that all is working again.

Just reset your Apple TV. That will fix the problem. Not a restart, a reset. It's a pain, because you have to enter all your network info, Apple ID, Netflix info, etc. but it will fix the problem. It may even fix the intermittent "no content found" error.

My guess is that the errors are caused by a software update, which really needs a reset afterward, not just a restart. I hate to say this, but Apple is starting to resemble Microsoft, with continual problems, instead of "it just works." 😟

I have read what everyone tried. I tried the switching to wifi and restoring method, still can't sign into youtube. Everything else works, Hulu plus, netflix, buying, renting, and watching from iTunes. But netflix is a no go, and I've tried this on 2 aplleTV 3's. Hope apple will fix this soon as it is quite anoying to have to search for what I already am subscribed to on my youtube account. Maybe someone can post how to down grade to before this update, as I read it didn't happen until then.
