Can a unlocked (no ATT, Verizon, Sprint plan) iphone 5 bought from an Apple store utilize a phone call while simultaneously checking email, web pages etc.? I know the ATT version can and the Verizon version can't, so can a unlocked Apple?

Can a unlocked (no ATT, Verizon, Sprint plan) iphone 5 bought from an Apple store utilize a phone call while simultaneously checking email, turn by turn, web pages etc.? I know the ATT version can and the Verizon version can't, so can the unlocked version from Apple (which is not yet available) do it?

I understood that if I buy an unlocked iphone 5 from Verizon that I can use it in Asia unlike the ATT version, and that their was a difference in the two phones internally, perhaps I was misinformed.

So from what you are saying it does not matter which carrier I buy a new iphone 5 from including the Apple store that they are all identical in their development and the usage pertains solely and strictly to the carrier?

The difference has to do with which LTE frequencies the phone uses. Using it in Asia it would be using the LTE/GSM portion of the phone, not the CDMA, and would be able to do phone and data at the same time. As the other poster said, the ability to do data and voice is a difference between GSM and CDMA. LTE should allow for simultanious use.
