How much is a new iPhone 3Gs battery( my old battery expanded)

My Iphone battery expanded not sure why, i want to buy a new one i dont have enough money for a new iPhone( 4,4S,5) So the 3S is the best i can do, And i would also like to know why the battery expanded. So how much a new battery?( i dont have a warrenty i bought it used from a guy and it was alredy like that) and whhy did it expand? how much is it going to cost me?< is it worth the money?

You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPhone purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $79, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

If you are in the US and elligible for an upgrade through your carrier, the 4 is cheaper. It is available for free from AT&T and Verizon for a 2yr contract. The 4S, available from Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T is only $99 with a 2yr contract.

Check with your carrier... it may make more sense to upgrade than replace the battery.
