I've got a new iPad mini that is refusing to automatically connect to my home wifi network. I have to do it manually each time. However when I took it into the apple shop today it automatically connected to their network. I have a netgear router and the iPad is running iOS6 which seems to have caused problems for a lot of iPhone and iPad users - should I try downgrading the firmware? Anyone else with this problem?
Try Forget This Network.
Settings>Wi-Fi>tap little arrow on right of network.

I don't think I have that option. when I press the little blue button to the right of my network, I have a choice of DHCP, BootP and Static under a heading of IP Address, a Renew Lease button and a choice of Off, Manual and Auto under a heading of HTTP Proxy - they are currently set to DHCP and Auto.
You do not see Forget this Network at the very top of that screen that shows DHCP, BootP ... Renew Lease?
What model and version Netgear router do you have?
Did you look at the picture I attached?
Apologies hadn't realised that was a screen shot, but no definitely don't have the Forget this network option.
To JimHdk - it has a couple of numbers N150 and WNR1000 and we only got it a month or so ago - it has worked perfectly for wifi connections with the MacBooks and my Mac desktop
Have you tried:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Have you updated firmware for the router?
No, that was part of my question. I've seen some sites talking about problems with iPads and iPhones following the upgrade to iOS6 and suggesting that you needed to downgrade the router firmware. I've never interfered with my router apart from setting it up, so I was a bit nervous about changing things.
It's almost midnight here, so I'm going offline now. Will check bak in the morning - thanks very much for your assistance.
If you have never updated the firmware in your router you likely have the initial release version.
Note that there are three versions of the Netgear WNR1000 router v1, v2, and v3. You will have to check to see which one you have.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I have v3. When I go to the download centre, it says the four firmware options are all for North America only - I'm in Australia - should I still try downloading?
Maybe I should try calling Netgear. The fact that it connected automatically in the Apple shop suggests it is likely to be a router issue.
@Texas Mac Man - it's not that I can't get a connection, it's that it won't automatically connect and I have to manually connect each time, including entering the password. No problems once I do that.
Rename your network from Netgear to something else
I have the same problem that my new ipad mini does not automatically connect to my home network. I must enter the password after powering up the mini each time. I use a Linksys router so I wonder if it's not a router problem.
